      • Under the supervision and collaboration of a wound care Medical Physician, the wound care Physician Assistant, will provide wound care services to adults. Wound care services include assessment, diagnosis, management and treatment of acute and chronic wound care needs. PA will collaborate with patients medical providers to provide wound care and healthcare promotion.
      • Required:
          • Masters of Physician Assistant Studies, with board certification as Physician Assistant
      • Preferred:

      • Required:
          • Active Montana state PA license
          • DEA
          • Current board Certification as PA
          • BLS through AHA as healthcare provider
          • PA’s employed by BH or affiliates must have current MD supervision agreement defining their duties and delegations as per Montana State Board of Medical Examiners requirements.
      • Preferred:
          • Current Certified Wound Specialist OR Certified Wound Care Associate

      • Required:
          • 2 years of demonstrated competency in the skills and knowledge pertinent to the practice of Physician Assistant in primary care and/or subspeciality medicine, with Demonstrated experience in wound care subspeciality
      • Preferred:
          • Wound care and hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment experience, Current Certified Wound Specialist OR Certified Wound Care Associate

          • Knowledge of drugs used in wound care: indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration
          • Knowledge of current and emerging trends in technologies, techniques, issues, and approaches in area of wound care
          • Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures
          • Knowledge of diagnostic testing modalities: indications, interpretation and application of labs and imaging
          • Knowledge of tertiary wound care resources and when to refer
      • SKILLS IN:
          • Provide responsible medical care within the leagal scopr of practice as PA in Montana
          • Must have self judgment and ability to refer to other appropriate providers when situations arise that are outside one’s scope of practice or expertise
          • Current with continuing education requirements related to pharmacology and licensure
          • Up to date knowledge of wound care principles and practices
          • CPT and ICD-9 codes as they relate to clinic billing
          • Preparation and maintenance of medical record
          • Participates in ongoing educational activities, demonstrating commitment to lifelong learning, seeks experience to maintain skills and competency. Maintains record of such educational activities.
      • ABILITY TO:
          • Ability to triage patients- recognizing emergency medical situations and when to consult MD or refer to emergency room
          • Ability to perform pertinent diagnostic and/or therapeutic procedures to include wound incisions and drainage, debridement, skin biopsy, and skin substitute applications
          • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
          • Ability to clearly communicate medical information to other medical practitioners
          • Ability to operate standard wound care equipment.
          • Ability to communicate effectively orally and written- with colleagues, patients and families
          • Ability to maintain flexibility to adapt to a variety of work environments and workload assignments
          • Ability to manage stressful situations and to practice self care
          • Ability to educate and counsel patients and families on wound care
          • Ability to provide age appropriate care in a culturally and ethnically sensitive manner
          • Ability to work independently and in a team model of patient care
          • Ability to delegate duties to care team members- to include RNs, MAs, unlicensed personnel
          • Ability to follow established BH policy and procedures
          • Ability to evaluate one’s own physician assistant practice in relation to professional practice standards, guidelines, rules and regulations
          • Ability to attain knowledge and competency as needed for job description.
          • Participates in required APC peer and performance review and takes action to achieve goals for self that are identified in this process
          • Participates in the professional development of peers and students
          • Ability to integrate ethical provisions in all areas of practice: delivering care that protects patient autonomy, dignity and rights. Maintains patient confidentiality, serving as a patient advocate.
          • Ability to maintain therapeutic and professional relationships with other providers, staff and with patients
          • Ability and commitment to integrate evidence based research into ones professional practice
          • Ability to provide leadership in the practice setting and PA profession
