Job Description: Salary: $16.00/hour Primary Function/Job Summary: The Youth Development Director (YDD) is responsible for ensuring that daily planning and implementation of a variety of social, recreational, athletic, educational and cultural programs are implemented and completed according to BGCH policies and procedures for adolescent youth and occasionally would also be involved in working with elementary and intermediate youth. Additionally, the YDD will integrate culturally relevant, leadership and “What’s Next” activities including, but not limited to, Truancy Prevention, Leaders in Training (LIT), Youth of the Year (YOY), and post-secondary education and job readiness initiatives. This position must communicate clearly, consistently, and effectively the needs and progress of their members and programs to their Clubhouse Director and internal LIT Management team. KEY ROLES (ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES): Program Planning and Implementation The YDD is responsible for the planning, coordinating, development, implementation and evaluation of a broad range of programs including LIT in the areas of Good Character, Citizenship and Leadership Development, Academic Success and Career Development, Healthy Lifestyles to include life skills, mental health, the arts and sports, fitness and recreation, etc. Establish and maintain Club program goals and settings that ensure the health and safety of members. Develop and implement a plan for the recruitment and retention of members including outreach. Promotes and stimulates interest and participation of Club members in various club activities. Work closely with program staff, Program Director and Clubhouse Director to develop and implement programs and activities that meet youth’s needs, with special emphasis on career and education development, technology, and leadership development. Promote and stimulate youth membership through ongoing outreach efforts and initiatives. Ensure the evaluation of Club programs on a continual basis. Ensure programs /activities respond to member needs and address gender and cultural diversity (see BGCH values below). Increase visibility of Club programs via posting of the daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events. Promote Youth Program utilizing mailings, fliers, and social media. Consistently connects and communicates with supervisors, staff teams, youth, parents and other stakeholders in a timely manner to ensure strong relationships and rapport are built and maintained for the betterment of the clubs’ members. Plans, implements and participates in special activities (i.e. field trips, camps, etc.) and travel as required. Consistently follows instructions and observes BGCH policies and procedures. Provide training and orientation of members and volunteers for special programs, including LIT. Provide on-going feedback and recognition of member's progress and assist them at meeting designated benchmarks. Track and monitor mamber's progress and report information to Clubhouse Director, Program Director, and appropriate staff. Undertake any other duties that upper management staff might deem necessary to the best interest of the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii. Performs all other duties as necessary to ensure the success of programs under his/her jurisdiction. Administrative Functions Assists Club Director in helping prepare annual program budget and authorizes expenditures up to an approved limit as determined by the Clubhouse Director and the Program Director. Prepares requisitions for supplies, equipment, etc. with the Clubhouse Director or Program Director’s approval. Prepares youth program schedules. Prepares and submits required written reports, letters, data tracking, memos, etc., on a timely basis, an in compliance with deadlines, to Clubhouse Director and Program Director. Assists in new member/parent orientation. Assists the Program Director/Clubhouse Director with fund-raising activities including but not limited to Youth of the Year, Great Futures Day, and Walk in the Country Attends scheduled staff meetings. Assists with duties as assigned. Development, Recruitment and Training Coordinates and provides in-service training for program staff as requested by Clubhouse Director and Program Director. Provides clear, consistent and effective communication regarding program and member needs, progress and updated to Clubhouse Director Program Director, program staff, volunteers, and youth participants. Works with other Club staff and volunteers to ensure members are receiving full Club benefits. Assists Clubhouse Director and Program Director in recruitment and training of program staff and volunteers as directed. Teach, instruct, facilitate programs as directed by Clubhouse Director and Program Director. Marketing and Community Relations Promotes and stimulates community and parent interest in Club activities by establishing good community relations. Develop and implement a plan for the recruitment and retention of members. Increase visibility of Club programs via posting of daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events and the dissemination of timely information for the development of advertising and promotion through mailings, fliers and media releases. As directed by Clubhouse Director and Program Director, develops an annual plan to collaborate with other youth-serving organizations in the community, including principals of schools, community associations/neighborhood boards, and police department personnel. Assists Clubhouse Director/Program Director with recruiting and orienting new Club members and their parents. Facilities Management Ensure that program areas are safe, well ventilated and well lit and that club equipment is maintained in good working condition. Supervises the care and maintenance of the youth program equipment and facility. Maintains inventory of program supplies and equipment. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Ability to work with members and youth, including “at-risk” youth. Ability to communicate and work effectively with multi-ethnic cultures and people with different levels of education and socioeconomic status. This person must communicate clearly, consistently and effectively the needs, challenges, and progress of their members and programs to their Clubhouse Director and other designated staff. Ability to work independently as well as work well with others on a team. Ability to organize activities and documents in a professional manner. Ability to work for prolonged periods of time at high levels of activity, managing multiple tasks with varying deadlines. Possess physical skills to meet physical demands of all program activities. Possess general knowledge of athletic, recreation, and other program equipment. Possess emotional maturity and patience to deal with “at risk” youth to help them reach their objectives. Ability to operate a personal computer, using word processing, spreadsheet, and database management. Ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of agencies and community organizations. Able to work flexible days and hours (including weekends for fundraising events). Education and Experience: Four-year degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience. A minimum of two years’ work experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience. Possess a current CPR and First Aid certificate (or be able to obtain one within 90 days of employment).
