Boost Biomes is using the powerful social networks among microbes to provide novel, sustainable solutions to feed and heal people everywhere. Boost’s core technology is a proprietary discovery platform that uses high throughput sequencing, selective enrichment and advanced informatics to identify microbial products with important commercial roles. Our technology differentiator is the development of a causal understanding of microbial interactions powerful enough to allow the rational construction of designer functional consortia.
Our first products seek to reduce the enormous waste in agricultural products due to crop loss to fungal pests in the field and post-harvest. There is significant need for new biological, organic, safe biopesticides for crops; current chemical products have many challenges, such as regulatory burden for growers and safety concerns of consumers.
The company operates at JLabs in South San Francisco, the heart of west coast biotech. Boost has a deeply experienced founding team, and licensed IP protecting the platform.
We are looking for excited, passionate and technically-skilled team player who wants to make a meaningful contribution to our early milestones and gain great experience in industry science and in transitioning science from the lab to a product. Areas we need help in include general lab operations, bioassay of fruit fungal disease suppression, microbiology, sequencing and bioinformatics.
Junior, Senior or BSc.in Microbiology, Microbial Ecology, Ecology and Evolution, Biology, Plant Science or related majors
General lab experience, aseptic technique, media and buffers, etc.
A great attitude: enthusiastic and willing to learn!
Experience culturing, isolating, identifying microbes, especially fungi.
Experience with plant pathogens.
Experience DNA extraction from environmental samples.
You are keen to change the world by starting your career in an exciting startup changing how we grow our food!
Willing to work hard in a fast-paced environment, and able to take on a lot of responsibility, including learning new protocols.
Process- and detail-oriented. Very attentive.
