Senior Manager, Corporate Strategy

This position is a critical member of the Corporate Strategy team at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA). The group exists to define and facilitate the strategic planning process; develop, articulate and adapt the company's strategic plan; partner with Segment leads to align and advance segment-level strategies; align and drive portfolio and prioritization and support critical strategic initiatives in their formation of recommendations before their transition to implementation. This role will report into the VP of Corporate Strategy. As a part of SCIAD, this role will work collaboratively and cross-functionally across the division and beyond.The successful candidate should deliver a broad skillset: an ability to develop strategic concepts and frameworks; ability to communicate effectively with the business in creating demand for strategic intelligence and strategic support; and ability to drive strategic and quantitative analyses. This individual will partner with strategy leads at the SVP, VP and Director levels, coordinating strategic planning initiatives across Corporate, Division and Segment platforms, crafting strategic frameworks, conducting analysis of market intelligence and data in order to develop strategic recommendations, and providing program management support on SMO efforts.
Major Responsibilities:

Strategy Activation and Corporate Strategy core:
Establish cross-division Strategy Activation prioritization pipeline / portfolio with articulated strategic priorities in alignment with Analytics, Innovation, BCG
Develop robust end to end Strategy Activation 'guide' and processes - including but not limited to: 4D (or other) framework, success metrics, governance structures, competitive / landscape research guidance, lessons learned
Serve as Strategy Activation leader; align on key projects across division leading and participating in all project-related deep-dives - including but not limited to:
+ Analytics - develop requirements for Analytics pods and deliver storylines / insight to business leaders; effectively iterate with data scientists on daily basis
+ Innovation - leverage Design Thinking methodology and other relevant frameworks to develop end-to-end experience; cross-staff Strategy Activation projects effectively
+ Develop success metrics, governance and operating models, best practice recommendations and more
Lead major workstreams of strategic planning process including building a view of the market landscape and prioritization of key issues for executive engagement
Develop scenario views of the market and BCBSMA position
Propose and create buy-in to tracking mechanisms to measure effectiveness of strategic initiatives
Provide program management support for working groups of strategic initiatives
Drive quantitative analysis both externally (e.g., industry trends, ROIs, demand views, etc.) as well as internally to inform structured recommendations for select strategic initiatives
Conduct qualitative analysis both externally (market developments, employer demands, consumer trends and technology, etc.) and internally (understanding BCBSMA position, prior decisions made, feasibility dynamics, etc.) to inform structured recommendations for select strategic initiatives
Lead and facilitate work groups of leaders across the organization to gain input and form strategic recommendations
Keep abreast of changes in the industry and field, proactively identifying and assessing strategic business issues, needs and opportunities for BCBSMA to meet corporate goals
Design, develop, and assess financial implications of solutions for strategic issues through quantitative and financial modeling (e.g., cost/benefit, ROI, etc.)

Strategy Alignment, Measurement and Data-driven Insights:
Partner with existing Segment platform / leads to closely align Segment-level strategies with Corporate Strategy and tactical Division plans - ensure short, medium and long-term alignment
In partnership with Segment platform / leads, establish effective tracking mechanism of strategies; align with existing measurement platforms (Board, EMT) - refine on an ongoing basis
Ensure strategy alignment vis-a-vis partnership with Business Planning on all corporate and divisional timelines, goals / targets
Establish robust measurement and reporting mechanisms in alignment with Analytics Team - develop 'start, change, stop' recommendations across SCIAD (and beyond)
Serve as key liaison to Analytics team for execution of critical programs / projects needed to achieve strategic objectives

Ongoing:
Prepare and deliver monthly, quarterly and/or ad hoc reports to senior management, executive team and Board of Directors
Lead special projects and initiatives across functions and business units
Represent department to internal/external clients/vendors

Qualifications:
Understanding of the health care and health insurance industries
Strong problem solving and communication skills (verbal, written and presentation, including development of frameworks and effective powerpoint documents)
Proven analytical skills, excel modeling experience
Project management and interpersonal skills, ability to act as a team player and thought partner Ability to interact with and collaborate with leaders at all levels of the organization
Strong facilitation skills eliciting diverse perspectives and guiding discussions to objectives
Ability to present appropriate level of detail and recommendations to elicit actionable (and efficient) decision-making
Strong client management skills including influencing skills and organizational astuteness
High standards of performance, attention to detail, and commitment to excellence

Education/Relevant Experience:
Bachelor's Degree required; MBA or Masters in related field preferred
Management / strategy consulting experience preferred
Minimum 8 to 10 years relevant business experience
