JOB SUMMARY

The Cattery Operations Manager maintains the Cattery facility and serves as the lead employee, under the direction of the Animal Center Director. Responsibilities include all aspects of operational procedures involving cats that enter into the Blount County Animal Center while providing exemplary customer service to the community and maintaining positive relationships with all BCAC partners and volunteers.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Manages cattery operations.
  • Consults with possible adoption candidates.
  • Enter adoptions into appropriate database programs; including accepting payments and donations followed with receipts for all parties to maintain accurate monetary records.
  • Performs inventory control; including resource allocation management.
  • Regularly clean, disinfect, and maintain a healthy Cattery/Isolation facility, while also positively supervising cleaning and maintenance by volunteers and/or assistants assigned to the Cattery/Isolation facility; and willingly clean other areas of the Animal Center as needed.
  • Make logical recommendations that impact the budget.
  • Monitors cattery population, care, and feeding.
  • Coordinates with the Center Veterinarian for care, disease management, and spay/neuter scheduling.
  • Performs other assigned duties.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK

  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • One (1) year of experience in an Animal Center or Veterinary Facility with cats as the primary focus;
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience;
  • Ability to pass a drug screening and background check; and
  • Valid driver's license.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to Animal Center Protocols, Policies, and Procedures.
  • Skilled in the use of computers and database systems such as Animals First.
  • Ability to demonstrate concise oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain organizational and record management skills.
  • Knowledge of basic veterinary terminology.
  • Knowledgeable understanding of basic procedures for preventing disease transmission.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound and safe animal handling skills; Fear Free experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment that requires adaptation to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
  • Ability to supervise, organize, and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to maintain constructive, professional, and cooperative working relationships with a myriad of individuals, co-workers, and volunteers.
  • Ability to express ideas concisely and to work as part of a dynamic team; and cooperate with fellow employees and/or volunteers.
  • Ability to willingly work overtime pay, Holiday pay, and scheduled days off when the need arises.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work requires lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds); handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, pulling, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking, and being physically able to work outside in all weather conditions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Most work is performed in a well-lighted, modern kennel setting with centrally controlled heating and air conditioning, or outside in conditions which may include heat, cold, rain, or other inclement weather.
