About this role
The Performance Measurement & Attribution team is responsible for calculation and interpretation of all portfolio and benchmark return analytics for Blackrock. This includes generating analytical outcomes, supporting investment teams through product level support, acting as a centralized source and control of performance for the firm, and building tools and automated solutions.
Committed to servicing the needs of our fast-growing global client base, the demands for accurate, timely & informative performance data is central to many of the BlackRock's core objectives. Products covered are the spectrum of Mutual Funds, ETF's, segregated clients and investment asset classes including Fixed Income, Multi-Asset, Equity and Alternative including derivatives.
Job Purpose/Background:
Are you a software developer with a passion for creating something new? The nature of this role will be to lead a group of Software Engineers in setting the pace, path, and standard for all programming activities within the Performance Measurement and Attribution team. Our development team focuses on client experience, accuracy, advanced interactive visualization, integration with powerful data analytics capabilities, and the ability to automate volume through exception-based processing. He/She will be responsible for evaluating new software development opportunities for use within the investment performance process. The team lead will also collaborate with a project coordinator or sometimes need to act in that capacity to ensure our projects meet specified requirements and timelines.
As a senior representative of the team in Atlanta, the candidate will be encouraged to build direct channels of communication with internal clients and strengthen partnerships with other technology teams. To be effective, the applicant will require a proven understanding of programming principles combined with practical managerial and industry experience.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Setting direction for the Software Engineering team responsible for specification, development, and implementation of new products that support total return and attribution data requirements.
  • Ensuring the quality of team's code and documentation. Candidate will also be expected to do hands-on development as the situation requires it.
  • Acting in a project manager capacity for strategic projects within Performance measurement eco-system. Engaging with senior partners to provide updates and coordinating with internal teams to get results.
  • Operate as an elevated point of contact for investigating and resolving client's technical inquires related to functionality within Blackrock's Performance and Attribution applications.
  • Connecting with key client user groups around the firm to ensure client needs can be achieved through improvements Performance Team's infrastructure.
  • Gain full understanding of the internal systems (Aladdin) and how to use them to support every growing and demanding business needs.
Knowledge/Experience:
  • 6-10 years software engineering work experience on large scale software development and deployments. Asset Management Industry experience with a focus on building analytical calculators and workflows is preferred.
  • BA/BS in Computer Science from an accredited university (in lieu of degree, 4+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Forward-thinking & project orientated; able to demonstrate ability to initiate, undertake and complete projects, whilst providing transparency on progress and challenge
  • Proficient in the analytics behind Multi-Asset, Fixed Income and Equity investing, and performance attribution principles for these portfolios.
Skills/Qualifications:
  • Strong programming skills in Java; knowledge of Angular, Spring, SQL, Javascript, HTML5 and CSS3.
  • Extensive use of APIs and understanding of HTTP and REST architecture; Experience with multi-tier enterprise application architecture and design.
  • Agile development skills.
  • Investigative, Debugging, and other problem solving skills.
  • Passionate about new technologies and working in a fast-paced team environment to inspire change.
