ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION:
Best Friends Animal Society is a national non-profit focused on ending the killing of cats and dogs in America's shelters by 2025. Best Friends is leading the no-kill movement by running lifesaving community programs for dogs and cats, providing support and training for animal shelters and rescue groups, and mobilizing community members on behalf of pets in need across the country.
The communities we collaborate with are diverse and multicultural – and we want that to be reflected within our organization. We welcome our employees’ unique wisdom, special skills, passion, and whole self to the workplace. We believe that our differences are pivotal to uniting the movement and achieving our mission. Our hiring practices are based on kindness and treating all living things – people, animals, and the planet – as we would like to be treated. We encourage candidates who can add to our culture by bringing their fresh perspectives and unique lived experiences to apply.
WHAT IS THE NATIONAL SHELTER EMBED PROGRAM?
Generally, “no-kill” means that shelters, private organizations, SPCAs, and humane societies are saving all healthy or treatable animals in their care. We believe that every community can reach the no-kill goal, but we know that no single organization can do it alone, which is why Best Friends works with agencies all over the country to share our resources and expertise and help communities achieve no-kill. One way we do this is through the National Shelter Embed Program.
The Best Friends National Shelter Embed Program, in partnership with Maddie’s Fund, places Best Friends staff members in animal sheltering agencies across the country.
These staff members work alongside agency staff to help implement strategies that can take their community to no-kill. With the support and knowledge of the embedded staff, we help partner organizations accomplish goals that would normally take years in a matter of months.
