Job Description: BPG SAFETY SHIFT LEAD JOB DESCRIPTION Berkeley Patients Group (BPG) is one of California’s oldest and most respected cannabis dispensaries. This position requires an individual who can consistently provide professional service to patients, demonstrate respect and support for fellow staff members, and acquire expert knowledge about cannabis and its medicinal applications. The Safety Shift Lead fills a critical role in dispensary operations. The Safety Shift Lead is responsible for leading daily operations including opening and closing procedures, patient service, dispensary compliance, records keeping, and patient traffic. Daily duties include but are not limited to following up on incident reports, resolving patient membership issues, monitoring safety and compliance, and facilitating breaks for the Safety Department. The Safety Shift Lead reports to Safety Manager in the Safety Department. Key Responsibilities ● Lead daily operations of the Safety Department, assist to train Safety Team Members ● Supervise safety operations; assign duties and monitor work performance to prepare facilities for opening and closing ● Oversee compliance with company policies and procedures and appropriate government regulations ● Enter daily log records into database, filing documentation appropriately before shift’s end ● Assist to supervise Safety Team members to provide courteous service and a safe environment to patients, co-workers, and visitors, carrying out safety policies and guidelines in a compassionate manner ● Collaborate with the Dispensary Manager and Receptionist to gauge patient flow ● Oversee the distribution of radios and other security equipment, apparel and supplies to safety team members, maintaining standards for cleanliness and presentation ● Follow up on incident reports to resolve issues and enter information into database ● Assist and advise Safety Manager to review, revise, develop, and implement safety policies, procedures and standards ● Facilitate break schedule and work flow ● Report persons or incidents involving suspected unwanted activity such as vandalism, property damage or rule infractions ● Oversee enforcement of health, safety and sanitation guidelines ● Document and report any irregularity, incident, or emergency actions concerning safety and security ● Perform administrative duties related to department operations, such as creating documents or presentations, ordering supplies, supervising projects, and maintaining records and report ● Greet and warmly welcome each patient, communicate a “patient first” attitude to all ● Screen and verify patient ID to admit patients; bar entry without proper identification ● Provide excellent service; interact in a friendly, professional, hospitable manner ● As needed answer, screen, direct and transfer calls using multi-line phone system ● Accurately take and promptly deliver phone messages when necessary ● Use Filemaker to verify recommendations and register new patients; input new patient and/or caregiver information into database ● Confirm status of return patients in database to verify membership and clearance to receive service ● Accurately update individual patient files by entering each visit in database ● Communicate to staff clearly via BPG radio, using BPG-designated terminology ● Determine admission or denial to any visitor/patient, questioning and removing persons as necessary; interact with Safety or General Manager as needed ● Communicate safety concerns with Safety Manager or Manager on Duty and employees ● Provide a safe and secure internal and external BPG environment ● Interact with Operations Managers, and/or Safety Manager as needed for barred patients ● Implement safety policies; ensure the safety of employees, patients, and company assets ● Monitor property and immediate surrounding areas, (e.g., parking lot gates, front of property line, parking lot posts, and internal access points, etc.) ● Perform scheduled and random inspection patrols of physical premises ● Observe, caution, instruct, correct, investigate and report persons or incidents involving unusual, suspicious or unwanted activity such as vandalism, property damage or rule infractions ● Identify potential security and safety risks, or undesirable conditions, and reports such activities according to BPG reporting protocols ● Respond to all emergency situations including but not limited to medical emergencies, undesirable conduct, violations of company policies or civil laws; assists until proper authorities arrive ● Educate patients on appropriate behavior when necessary ● Observe patient-staff interactions; de-escalate conflict when appropriate ● Enforce Good Neighbor Policy and Building Guidelines ● Partner with Safety team to direct vehicle traffic and parking in the lot ● Maintain patient flow; at front door and in dispensary area ● During busy hours, assist to form lines and update patients to manage service expectations ● Communicate safety concerns with Safety Manager or Manager on Duty and employees ● Interface with local law enforcement and security agencies as situations require ● Communicate to any and all staff clearly via BPG radio , using BPG-designated terminology ● Complete all required paperwork to document any irregularity, incident, or emergency actions concerning safety and security ● Monitor deliveries and removal of items from company premises ● Follow health, safety and sanitation guidelines ● Comply with dress code requirements ● Punctuality and minimal absenteeism ● Follow BPG Safety Code of Conduct ● Follow BPG Emergency Action Plan in the event of an emergency ● Perform other duties as assigned Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities ● Current Guard Card from a BSIS-certified training facility ● First Aid/CPR certified ● Minimum of two years experience in a security related field; previous experience supervising security people, department, or systems in a medical cannabis facility or similar environment, or, a combination of related experience and relevant education ● High School Diploma or GED ● Knowledge of security/safety operations ● Strong knowledge of safety procedures and methods; experience with harm reduction philosophy preferred ● Solid knowledge of medical cannabis facility operations ● Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and diffuse tense situations calmly ● Excellent long-term visual recognition; recall skills and reporting skills ● Excellent problem-solving, negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills ● Ability to make sound decisions within an urgent timeframe and to react and remain calm during periods of high demand or unusual events ● Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population ● Strong communication skills; verbal and written; excellent oral, interpersonal, and active listening skills ● Knowledge of basic math calculations ● Knowledge of basic computer functions (PC platform, POS system) ● Strong attention to detail and ability to focus ● Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team ● Ability to adapt and change job tasks according to business demands ● Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions ● Ability to work accurately, quickly and efficiently and to learn and execute protocols quickly ● Ability to speak, read, write and understand the primary languages used in the workplace; bilingual skills a plus ● Ability to work scheduled shifts and arrive for work on time; be punctual and present ● Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays to meet the needs of the business.
