Job Description




Aftermarket Sales position for the sale of boiler related accessory, services and products primarily to commercial and industrial end users. Primary focus will be to champion the following:

  • Burner Retrofits
  • Pressure Vessel Repairs
  • Aftermarket boiler service
  • Economizers
  • Blowdown Heat Recovery
  • Controls Upgrades
  • Oxygen Trim systems


The Service Manager shall delegate the aftermarket sales position duties, which include the following: the above primary focus, annual inspection services, City of S.F. PTO’s and repair of boilers, burners and related accessories. This effort involves regular contact with the new boiler sales group and service personnel, end users, contractors and also occasionally with specifying engineers who specify our equipment. Our expectation is for the aftermarket sales person to provide quotations to customers, assist the service department’s personnel, and assist with scheduling of work and monitor billings, costs and inventory, related to jobs. An inside administrative person provides office support.

Must be able and willing to work the hours necessary to fulfill the needs and expectations of the position and our customers. This is not a job for someone who expects to work at a specified starting and quitting time. The hours worked are as demanded by the workload and those as needed to get the customers back on line in emergency situations.

Must have good knowledge in appraising the customer’s service needs for the repair of various products including boilers, burners, boiler accessories, and other heat producing equipment. Must be willing to further your knowledge in these areas and any others that will be applicable for our company.

Must have the ability to provide some boiler sizing and application support as needed on the various boilers to assist in proper equipment operation and selection. Some in-house and formal factory training will be provided on a scheduled basis but you are expected to seek the necessary level and frequency of training from the company’s resources in order to become proficient in these areas. Time in the field with our sales personnel is expected in order to develop an understanding of the contractor, engineering and competitive requirements of our industry. We believe these skills are essential in order to provide the maximum benefit to our customers by having a superior knowledge of product applications and operation. This process will maximize service volume and service margins.

Must have a good personal image, have empathy for the customer and the customer’s problems, and be willing and be proactive to do, within reason, what is required to solve problems for the customer. Communication of manufacturer equipment problems or issues with relation to the customer must be handle within the team before the customer or engineer is apprised. Must respond promptly and efficiently when called upon by our personnel or the customer, in order to promote the goodwill of the company and to assist in the improvement of sales. Must be a “self-starter” and exhibit a high level of output with minimal supervision. We believe our company is very good at what we do by having self-motivated personnel that are very good at what they do. A commitment to excellence is expected.

Must be very detailed in paperwork.

Must have computer skills.



Will report directly to Service Manager.

Will proactively call on existing customer base to develop long-term relationships and generate service contracts. Will respond to service quote requests and act in accordance with your level of training. Will request help immediately if the requests encountered exceed your skill level. Will support prompt billing and costing as needed for accurate accounting of the company’s projects. This requires a complete understanding of our procedures and the warranty and material return policies of the companies whose equipment we are the authorized service agents for.

Will be willing to attend factory training as needed and scheduling permits. Often the training/travel to and from the factories occurs on weekends, nights, etc. and it is understood and agreed that the compensation for these enrichment seminars will be only for eight hours on the weekdays that the meetings are held or travel occurs. After hours training and/or travel will not be paid time. Will keep sales personnel informed of ongoing service and problems with new and existing projects.

In general will do what it takes to make our company successful with the product lines we represent and the customers we serve. It is expected that this service effort will complement and accordingly increase the sales of our boiler product lines. Will work to “package” the sale of service contracts with our boiler lines.

Will understand the requirements of ASME Code repairs and its impact on estimating, inspections, welding procedures and material control.

Will be willing to perform other functions as may be required in order to maximize the efforts of the company in attaining sales, or improving service to the customer. Will realize that the purpose of the company is to fulfill a need for the customer. By performing this, the company will be able to grow and become more successful.



The following is a job description applicable:

· Experience with operation of boilers, pumps and boiler auxiliary equipment.

· Capable of identifying tells tale signs of potential problems with boilers, i.e.: tube leakage, scaling, pitting, metals discoloration and refractory failures.

· Knowledge in water treatment and how it relates to operation of the equipment. Capable of identifying potential problems when lack of water treatment is performed.

· Capable of reading and understanding electrical and mechanical drawings.

· Knowledge in the theory of combustion. Understand the state and local flue gas emissions requirements as applicable.

· Evaluate basic boiler room systems (steam and hydronic), gather information and help solve problems.

· Must be detail oriented in completing estimate sheets and proposals.

· Work with company CRM in maintaining contacts, activities, opportunities and proposals.

· Must have strong language skills as well as industry specific vocabulary.


Education & Experience Requirements:

Completed High school diploma or equivalent. Two years of technical school, community college or trade school. Position requires five years of related experience in the industry. Pipe fitting experience is a plus.


Other Requirements:

A valid driver's license is required. Must be insurable with no major infractions. Job will require some travel.
