Job Description
Position:         Controller 
Department:   Finance
Reports to:     Chief Financial Officer
FLSA Status:  Exempt 

Summary Description:

Oversee the accounting and financial reporting activities of the Company.  Functional responsibilities include the areas of accounting, general ledger and financial statement reporting, treasury and banking relations, accounts payable, cash applications, daily reporting for credit facility requirements, and tax compliance.  The position is also responsible for implementing and monitoring compliance with internal accounting and operating controls, policies and procedures to ensure proper mitigation of risk and losses, safeguarding of assets as well as approval and reporting of transactions.  Supervises a team of 4 direct reports and a broader team of 7.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•Create and implement a process to review and assess that internal operational and accounting controls are designed to address identified operational and accounting risks including mitigation of risk of losses, safeguarding of assets and adequate approval and reporting of transactions. 

•Work closely with the Business Analysis team to ensure that proper control objectives, failure modes and related controls are identified and documented for every process (manual and automated) to ensure the integrity of the control environment established by upper management. 

•Streamline and enhance the monthly book close and preparation of financial statements including balance sheet, income statement and statement of cash flows including account analyses and reconciliations.  Work closely with the Operations and Billing teams and the third-party billing supplier to resolve pending issues related to billing, revenue reporting and sales and use tax related matters. 

•Coordinates with other teams to ensure timely recording of transactions and the integrity and accuracy of financial reports. 

•Streamline and enhance the monthly reporting package to ensure timeliness of discussion with upper management and other stakeholders including financial statements, operational metrics, reporting of any control deviations or failures, certifications from other functional leaders, and others as considered necessary. 

•Oversee the monthly and quarterly reporting requirements and compliance with covenants under the credit facility.

•Streamline and enhance the accounts payable process and procedures to ensure timely recording and payment to providers of electricity and other non-energy components in accordance with the terms of the credit facility and other miscellaneous suppliers. 

•Create a process for continuous cash forecasting and reporting including recommendations of sources and uses of cash.  

•Oversee the annual audit process.

•Ensure compliance with federal and state tax compliance requirements by tax jurisdiction. 

•Provide guidance and supervision of team members in the areas of accounting and treasury management.
General business experience in a mid to large environment; revenues $1B; resources 300+ team members; commodity industry experience preferred.
•Experience in implementing processes and procedures that incorporate proper operational and accounting.
•Experience in assessing adequacy of internal controls covering various processes throughout the operation and making recommendations for improvement.
•Experience in leading external audit and managing timeline and cost.
•Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, determine priorities as projects arise and ensure that all projects get completed in a timely manner.
•Experience in monitoring contract covenants and reporting related to credit facilities. •Exceptional communications skills, written and oral.
•Leadership skills to ensure appropriate selection, training and development of department staff.
•Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
•Able to work as a team member within all finance and interdisciplinary teams.
Accounting or Finance degree; MBA and CPA certification required; at least 10 years of experience in the areas of accounting, treasury, and financial statement preparation; minimum of 8 years in supervisory positions, experience in the energy sector a plus
Computer Skills:
•Knowledge of Great Plains Dynamics accounting system and FRX report writer, or similar ERP system.
•Proficient in Excel (intermediate level) and power point presentations.
•VBA strongly preferred
