Company Description
The Barre Unified Union School District serves students in grades preschool through 12. The district operates Barre City Elementary & Middle School, Barre Town Middle & Elementary School, Central Vermont Career Center, and Spaulding High School for approximately 2,400 students. In addition to the regular school program, Barre Unified Union School District offers a full range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, extended summer learning opportunities, and after-school enrichment programs.

Barre City Elementary and Middle School (BCEMS) currently enrolls over 900 students in grades preschool through 8. Barre Town Middle and Elementary School (BTMES) currently has 867 students enrolled in grades preschool through 8. Spaulding High School (SHS) and the Central Vermont Career Center (CVCC) have a student population of approximately 850 in grades 9 through 12.

Barre City and Barre Town, incorporated separately, are located in the heart of Central Vermont in Washington County. Barre City has approximately 9,052 residents and is the 4th largest city in Vermont (after Burlington, South Burlington, and Rutland). Barre Town is home to four surrounding villages, including East Barre, Graniteville, South Barre, and Websterville, with a population of approximately 7,924.

The community around Barre City Elementary & Middle School has a long history of supporting its children and families by passing school budgets and in helping to educate its students through an active PTO, the Mentors Program, volunteers, family nights, math events, movie night, literacy night, sports events, book fair, tutoring, the community art show, numerous after school programs and in countless other ways.

Barre Town Middle & Elementary School also has a long history of its community supporting the school and their children. They are very proud of not only their school’s academic, athletic, and extracurricular programs, but also its facilities, buildings, and grounds. BTMES has historically attracted and retained capable, steady, and professional educators, aides, coaches, volunteers, and mentors who tend to dedicate themselves to the school for long periods of time.

Central Vermont Career Center has been serving students since 1969 and shares a campus with Spaulding High School. CVCC serves students from our neighboring schools such as Cabot School, Harwood Union, Union 32, Twinfield Union, Montpelier-Roxbury Public Schools, and also one of our own, Spaulding High School. Through a progressive outlook on education and the professional opportunities of a career-based education, their students learn the skills that lead to lifetime careers and academic excellence for a 21st century world.

Spaulding High School is the oldest and longest-operating high school in Vermont and serves nearly 750 students from Barre City, Barre Town, and the surrounding area. Their student body comes from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Since they share a campus with CVCC, SHS students have access to a wide range of outstanding academic and career-oriented courses. They strongly encourage our students to take advantage of the many opportunities they have right here at both institutions; as well as other “Flexible Pathway” options such as Dual Enrollment, Early College, Work-Based Learning, and other opportunities designed to enrich their educational experience. We offer a wide range of athletic teams, numerous clubs and activities, and one of just three Junior ROTC clubs in the state. Members of the SHS community not only get involved, but build lifetime friendships that follow them into the community, and their careers.

The greater Barre area has often been referred to as the "Granite Capital of the World" due to its world famous granite quarries and long history in the granite industry. Barre also offers convenient downtown shopping, a variety of recreational opportunities, great schools, and diverse housing opportunities, making it a great place to live and raise a family. As an integral part of the Barre-Montpelier urban area, Barre residents enjoy the conveniences of an urban area while living in some of the state's most beautiful, rural environments.
