Why Apply? You'll have a chance to work with manual and CNC lathes, multi-axis CNC HBMs, Vertical Machining Centers, and VTLs that machine unique precision components for naval nuclear reactors used in submarines and aircraft carriers.

This is a low-volume, highly-engineered manufacturing environment, and you'd be involved in the full life cycle of the build. Additionally, you'll get to work in a safe, clean, and highly-specialized environment alongside a great team of skilled colleagues while honing niche machining skills and advancing your craft. Our machine shop includes twelve large horizontal and vertical machining centers (up to 25-feet turning and 300-ton table capacity) and six small machining centers - and we aren't done growing! Two more large milling centers are planned for installation in the near future!

In addition to rewarding work, our machinists work a four-day workweek and receive market-leading wages; paid time off; a paid winter holiday shutdown; medical, dental, vision, and life insurance options, and service-based retirement contributions with additional 401k match. Overtime is required, but we are flexible in how it is achieved.

Additional overtime work is also available, if desired. Our machinists receive a shift premium for second shift work (4:00 PM to 2:30 AM) and premium pay like double time based on hours/days worked in a week.

What You'll Do:

In this role, you will set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools to perform various types of machining operations, such as milling, drilling, tapping, boring, and turning in order to meet print specifications. Additionally, you would:
  • Use precision measuring equipment to verify products meet the requirement
  • Work to +0.001" tolerance and 16 microfinish
  • Write/edit programs using both G and M coded controls (experience with Siemens and Fanuc controls preferred)
  • Troubleshoot challenges with on-site engineering support
  • Read and comprehend written instructions, technical procedures, prints, sketches, and bills of material
  • Work in a team environment
  • Use advanced mathematical skills
  • Work in accordance with all applicable company procedures, policies and rules

To be successful in this role:

Candidates must possess the skills necessary to safely and effectively complete required tasks. This includes, at a minimum:
  • An Associate's of Applied Science degree in Machining Tool and Die or equivalent experience
  • Experience with grinders, tool setters, jacks, clamps, bolts, shims, jigs, fixtures, angle plates, rules, micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, gages, levels, protractors, verniers, and light hand tools
  • Ability to maintain detailed records; ability to complete process documentation and other production records.
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete the prescribed proficiency tests for the position
  • Ability to work any shift, to include nights and weekends. NOTE: this position will involve back-shift work (4:00 PM to 2:30 AM)
  • (Preferred, but not required) Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • U.S. citizenship with no dual citizenship is required for this position
