Engineering Manager

DESCRIPTION
As an Engineering manager, you will lead a highly competent team of developers and be responsible for technology that will help innovate to build the future of our software. Also, you will play a crucial role in building a culture of better practices to ensure that the software we build and the technical processes that we implement with respect to quality are always best and always deliver the best for our customers.

Your responsibilities include:

• managing a team of software development engineers to build a massively scalable digital security system that is core to all AWS services.

• owning the complete software development lifecycle; defining, prioritizing, designing, and leading implementation and testing of new features for AWS Cryptography.

• operating an AWS business with globally distributed servers and customers.

• 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams

• 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers

• 3+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

• 5+ years software development experience with large-scale Internet-facing system.

• 5+ years experience managing a team of software engineers including performance and career management of team members.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience).

• Experience in leading software design for distributed scalable systems.

• Experience writing software in at least one modern programming language such as Java, C, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to a wide variety of audiences

• Strong and creative problem solving abilities

• Knowledge and experience with cryptography and computer security

• Post-graduate degree in Computer Science or related field

• Knowledge of full life-cycle software engineering practices including coding standards, testing, source control management, and operations

• Demonstrated ability to take a project or significant feature from concept to launch

• Distributed systems experience
