### Summary

Join the staff of the Bureau of Reclamation as a Student Trainee
(Engineering). An intern with AutoCAD experience is preferred.

This position is located with the Bureau of Reclamation, Mid-Pacific
Region, Mid Pacific Construction Office in Willows, CA. You must be
able to report to this location for duty no later than two weeks
from the date of tentative offer in order to be eligible for this

### Responsibilities

Serves as a Student Trainee (Engineering). Performs a variety of
routine duties in support of professional engineers and engineering
technicians. Primary duties will focus on utilizing AutoCAD.
-Uses software applications (e.g., AutoCAD, spreadsheets, databases,
word processing, electronic communications, etc.) to input or update
various technical data, perform calculations, and/or generate data
in prescribed formats.
-Extracts data from a variety of prescribed but non-standardized
sources, including maps, lists, and computer files.
-Performs a variety of routine engineering calculations; prepares
simple engineering drawings, and collects and computes data.
-Performs specific tasks relative to setup, operation or testing of
equipment or instruments.
-May accompany higher graded employees on field visits to acquire
knowledge of operations or assist them in various manual tasks.

This is a temporary student internship opportunity under the
Pathways Program. The major objective of the Pathways Program is to
employ students, giving them a chance to work in a Federal agency
and resume or continue their education without interruption caused
by financial pressure. Students appointed may work part-time while
school is in session and full-time (depending upon the needs of the
agency) when students are on a vacation period or whenever the
school is officially closed.

To be eligible, an applicant must:
- be at least 16 years of age or older;
- be in good academic standing as defined by the school they are
attending; and
- be a student who has been accepted for enrollment for next
semester and must maintain at least a half-time course load as
defined by your educational institution while serving in this
position OR be a student who is currently enrolled and seeking a
degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in an accredited high school,
technical or vocational school, 2-year or 4-year college or
university, or graduate or professional school. An individual who
needs to complete less than the equivalent of half an
academic/vocational or technical course-load immediately prior to
graduating is still considered a student for purposes of this
Program.

Interns must continue to meet program eligibility requirements
throughout the duration of the appointment.

In addition, they must meet all eligibility and qualification
requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

### Qualifications

Applicants must meet the Basic Education Qualification Requirements
listed below:

Using Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Schedule D, Pathways
Internship Positions:
GS-04: Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study
or an associate's degree.

Academic Year: At the undergraduate level, 30 semester hours or 45
quarter hours is comparable to 1 year of undergraduate education.
Four years of progressive study or 120 semester hours meets the
degree requirements. At the graduate level, 18 semester hours or 27
quarter hours.

Accreditation: Only education from an accredited college or
university recognized by the Department of Education is acceptable
to meet education requirements or to substitute for experience, if

Foreign Education: To receive credit for education completed
outside the United States, applicants must show proof that the
education has been submitted to a private organization that

Relocation: Travel and relocation expenses are not authorized and
are the responsibility of the selectee.

Telework: Reclamation has determined that the duties of this
position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed
to telework with supervisory approval. This is not a virtual
position.

Employment Conditions:
-Applicants must be available to work part-time in the Willows area
during the school year and full time during the summer.
-This is a temporary position with a not-to-exceed date. When the
not-to-exceed date is reached or whenever services are no longer
needed, the selectee will be terminated from Federal service.
Position may be extended depending on management's need, providing
student program requirements continue to be met.
-The duration of a Pathways appointment is a trial period.
-Successful adjudication of personnel security investigation
required.
-All Federal employees are required by PL 104-134 to have federal
payments made by direct deposit.
-A mandatory participant agreement that spells out the requirements
of the program, including an anticipated date for completing
educational requirements is required.

### How You Will Be Evaluated

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the
qualifications above.

Human Resources (HR) will review resumes and transcript(s) to ensure

questionnaire will take approximately 15 minutes.

The duties of the position align with the following Knowledge,
Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) required to perform the duties of the

1. Knowledge of computer assisted drafting techniques and systems to
file, retrieve, and prepare drawings using AutoCAD.
2. Ability to understand the methods and techniques of engineering,
engineering systems, processes, principles and practices.
3. Ability to perform mathematical calculations with a working
knowledge of algebra and trigonometry.
4. Experience with office automation applications (word processing,
database, spreadsheet, graphics) to collect, consolidate, and
compute report information in a logical and organized manner to
facilitate review and use by others.
5. Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation to
prepare routine written documents such as reports, specifications,
and correspondence.
