BDH Rehabilitation is looking for an experienced rehabilitation support worker to join our company. You will be responsible for working with a young woman with a brain injury complete her daily activities and embrace life. The ideal candidate must be empathetic and attentive to the needs of our client.
About the position:
We are running a private family home support team for a young woman who is living with the effects of a severe acquired brain injury. Our mission is one of inclusion and life quality, allowing an individual to live as fully as possible, despite disability. This is a young woman who is verbal and mobile, with an interest in self care, engaging in activities in the community, having fun, and living a full life. Please note that this is position can and does absolutely include overnight and evening shifts, which can be managed at the family home.
The successful candidate is a person with an interest in making a difference in the life of this young woman, having fun, and teaching new skills in a self directed work environment. Your empathy, ability to work well as part of a team, terrific communication skills, organizational ability, patience, and attention to detail, make you the ideal candidate. We are seeking someone with strong leadership skills as well, to take the lead on the activities in the home. Over the longer term, the successful candidate will be poised to be leading/directing the current and new team members.
Caregiver Duties and Responsibilities
- Assisting with tasks such as cooking and cleaning; some assistance in the shower is also required
- Cueing her to carry out tasks that are required
Caregiver Requirements and Qualifications
- Experience in brain injury is required
- Attend training if deemed necessary
- Learn basic emergency and safety techniques
- Be in good physical condition
- Have reliable transportation
- Enjoy helping those in need
The chosen candidate will have had training and/or education in brain injury and be willing to embrace this education if necessary. We are interested in someone who can fill a position quickly and with confidence and enthusiasm. Generating ideas of stimulating and fun activities is required to keep her interested and active. Her health is of optimum concern to us as a team. You will need to comfortably fit into the home where she lives with her mother during your shifts. Flexibility is a must.
In this role, you will take the client in your safe and well insured vehicle for outings in the community; there are also many opportunities to do activities at home. The family home is in a rural location and therefore, driving is essential.
