Job Description

The individual supporting the BI/DW business analysis area is responsible for the development of business requirements documentation as well as managing the expectations and relationships of business stakeholders. Pre-development activities include the analysis of business information and business processes to support the requirements development effort. Post-development activities include working with the business users to review and/or participate in testing and acceptance.

Required Skills and Education

Organize and facilitate Business Scoping and Requirements meetings. Author business and data requirements documents.

• Conduct one-on-one interviews with SMEs (subject matter experts) and power users to collect detailed requirements where appropriate.
• Include business decision making scenarios and business information terminology within requirements details.
• Assist business/user-side stakeholders in defining high profile business needs that require detailed data to support business actions.
• Perform analysis of business requirements as they relate to existing systems. Document interrelations and overlaps (users, functionality, data, etc.) where appropriate.
• Develop and maintain a library of requirements gathering tools and techniques.
• Must have business intelligence and/or data warehousing business requirements building.

Deliver and review requirements with BI team leadership (Technical Lead or program manager) as well as selected individuals within development team to ensure complete understanding and hand-off of requirements.

• Work with data modeler in supporting logical data model development.
• Support analytical application team to ensure that user expectations and requirements align with front end application deliverables.
• Act as liaison between development staff and end users when detailed process and data discussions require end user engagement. .

Manage and maintain end-user relationships before, during, and after project development efforts. This may include:

• Establishing project scope and goals prior to requirements gathering activities
• Manage end user expectations and involvement during development activities. Provided updated project status to end users and stakeholders
• Work with business users to ensure their involvement (and accountability) during application and data acceptance activities
• Support end-users through informal hands-on usage training and data analysis assistance.
• Ensuring ongoing user feedback system is "productionalized," to support ongoing program development

Preferred Skills and Education

• Must have strong communication skills and ability and desire to lead. Must work effectively in team-based organization with fluid functions and demanding users.
• Able to communicate with business stakeholders in a manner that focuses on business-level terminology, decisions, and issues. This includes the translation of business requirements into data and data-oriented business questions.
• Experience in relational database systems and data warehousing. Experience working all facets of requirements gathering, identification and analysis (business requirements, data requirements, functional requirements).
• Knowledge of data modeling and experience in developing high-level (or conceptual) data models as a means of documenting data requirements is preferred.

An understanding of "process", particularly inputs and outputs and linear implementation.
