Are you a self-motivated, collaborative microbiologist wanting to join a cross-functional team to aid new and continuing antimicrobial drug development? Do you prefer to work in a dynamic environment where your problem-solving skills can be applied to a variety of projects?

We are looking for a Drug Development Specialist to provide bench support for the development and/or optimization of in vitro assays, including planning experiments, guiding microbiology staff, reviewing data, and liaising with the study Principal Investigator (PI). The Specialist will have the option to seek internal advancement to grow as a research scientist in the thriving anti-infectives field.

A global leader for over twenty years, JMI Laboratories monitors antibiotic resistance patterns through the SENTRY Antimicrobial Surveillance Program, serves as a clinical and reference laboratory in support of new drug development, and conducts internal research projects on a variety of pathogenic microorganisms. Accordingly, JMI promotes a culture of research excellence with a team drawn from an array of academic, clinical, and industrial backgrounds.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Learn the types and methods of drug development studies performed.
  • Identify, plan, and execute novel scientific projects.
  • Manage the work of others in a direct or matrixed structure.
  • Communicate needs to IT staff and review outputs.
  • Collaborate with internal and external cross-functional scientific leaders.
  • Serve as a technical expert for procedures, processes, specific tasks, and the interpretation of results.
  • Interact with the PI, Scientists, QA staff and Microbiologists to review data to guarantee all testing follows SOP and protocol designs.
  • Help draft and review study reports for accuracy.
  • Use project management software to provide status updates.


Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or a related field in the life sciences from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of laboratory experience in research or drug development.
  • Ability to communicate well with cross-functional colleagues.
