About Avery's Village

Avery's Village is a Youth Residential Care (YRC II) 24-hour foster care facility with open access to the surrounding Wyandotte County community designed to provide activities and services for the care, protection and development of foster youth to achieve a higher level of functioning and healthier relationships.

SUMMARY. The Executive Director and Chief Operations Officer (COO) is supervised by the President/CEO and Vice President/CFO. The Executive Director has delegated overall responsibility for the leadership and management of personnel, operations, programming and compliance with all Kansas Department of Children and Families regulations and accreditation and licensing requirements. The Executive Director oversees the goal of the clients' highest level of safety, care, social & service support for healthier functioning, development and relationships. The Executive Director/COO is responsible to lead the organization towards the achievement of our mission, philosophy, strategy and annual goals and objectives. The Executive Director supervises the positions of Director of Program, Client Case Managers and Client Care Tech Managers to ensure their duties and responsibilities are carried out according to their job description.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. This position is supervised by the President and Vice President
  2. Regularly reports to the President and Vice President on work progress, any issues, and concerns
  3. Provides support to the President and Vice President for regular assignments and special projects
  4. The Executive Director oversees the goal of the clients' highest level of safety, care, social & service support for healthier functioning, development and relationships.

CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities)

  1. Keep updated all required CARF forms and documentation
  2. Keep updated all required plans (program, strategic, cultural competency & diversity plan, accessibility plan)
  3. Keep updated the policy and procedure manual

Operations

  1. Liaison for any reviews and investigations from the Kansas Department for Children and Family (DCF)
  2. Responsible to complete any notice of survey findings from DCF
  3. Responds to all correspondence or assignments from DCF
  4. Writes all bulletins and policy updates for operations
  5. Liaison with HR to update any operations policies
  6. Performs a daily building walk through to inspect the residential units are safe, clean and orderly
  7. Oversee and inspect any maintenance made to the facility
  8. Performs a daily review of MAR and control medication
  9. Performs a daily review of the AV in a Day review forms of Client Care Tech Managers and Client Care Techs
  10. Performs a daily review of all incident reports
  11. Provides weekly supervision to the Director of Programs
  12. Assist the Director of Programs in the development of a food service, programming and on-going staffing plan
    1. Reviews the Director of Programs on-going staffing plan to recruit, train and retain staffing necessary to reach our residential capacity goals
    2. Reviews the Director of Programs programming plan that facilitates the client's development in the areas outlined in the DCF PPS Standard Manual with measurable outcomes
    3. Reviews the Director of Programs food services plan to ensure the client's meals exceed quality, safety and nutritional requirements
    4. Reviews the Director of Programs supervision of the Client Care Tech Managers
  13. Provides weekly supervision of the Case Managers
  14. Work with the Case Managers in maintaining the proper number of long term placed clients in the facility
  15. Plans and conducts a weekly HR meeting
  16. Plans and conducts a weekly executive team meeting
  17. Creates and reviews the operations budget with executive team
  18. Plans and conducts a weekly managers team meeting
  19. Plans and conducts a weekly director team meeting
  20. Plans and conducts monthly all staff team meetings
  21. Ensures that all organizational activities and operations are carried out in compliance with all Kansas Department for Children and Families regulations for a Youth Residential Center II
  22. Directs the activities for the review, audit, monitoring and evaluation of programming performance and services and ensures the implementation of program modifications to reflect the changing needs of the clients
  23. Advocates and intervenes in the concerns and issues of clients and staff
  24. Acts as a positive role model and mentor for both staff and students

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Frequently move/lift between 25-50 pounds, depending on assignment requirements
  2. Perform all duties that may require sitting, kneeling, squatting and walking
  3. Manual dexterity and fine motor coordination

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age or older
  2. Master's degree from an accredited college in management or Human Services related field
  3. 3-5 years minimum experience as an executive director
  4. 1-2 years minimum experience of working knowledge of child development principles

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  1. Current CPR/First Aid Certification
  2. Knowledgeable and sensitive in working with culturally diverse staff and clients
  3. Solid knowledge in social helping and a positive approach to complex mental health issues
  4. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including both oral and written.
  5. Must have strong skills in organization and planning, demonstrated ability to work independently and problem solve
  6. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple people and projects
  7. Ability to prioritize tasks, exercise sound judgment and confidentiality with sensitive information
  8. Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff, community agencies, and consumers

OTHER POSITION ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. If required to operate a company vehicle during the course of employment, must possess a current state driver's license and have an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years
  2. Ability to pass a criminal background clearance check and a physical exam and TB test
