About Austin Parks Foundation

Austin Parks Foundation (APF) is dedicated to partnering with our community to enhance people’s lives by making our public parks, trails and green spaces better through volunteerism, innovative programming, advocacy and financial support. A non-profit established in 1992, APF fills the city’s funding and resource gap in order to develop, maintain and enhance the area’s nearly 300 parks, trails and green spaces.

APF is working on a new initiative to bring an amusement train back to Zilker Park. Since 1961, the train has taken Austinites and visitors of all ages on an adventure around Zilker Park, past scenic views of Lady Bird Lake, the great lawn and the Zilker Playscape. In 2020, the City of Austin entrusted APF with the responsibility of restarting train operations and using it to do good within the broader community. As we near the 60th anniversary of the beloved Zilker Train, APF is proud to be taking the lead on restoring it to its former glory.
