Job Description

Purpose:  The primary purpose of this position is to assist Atlanta Postal Credit Union to live out our Mission, “To help our members achieve financial success by providing exceptional products and service.” A key component of this mission is to provide outstanding service to both internal and external members, including recommending products and services to our members that will improve their financial life. 

You will be responsible for checking the applicant’s loan history, credit history, credit score, outstanding debt, income, and other factors that contribute to a loan approval or denial decision, in accordance with policy and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.    Deliver outstanding service to both internal and external members that is in alignment with our Service Promises

2.    Meets all established sales and service goals.

3.    Possess adequate product knowledge as measured by the annual product knowledge certification assessment.

4.    Analyze credit documents, including, but not limited to, mortgage applications, credit history, income documents, appraisals and all applicable compliance documents. 

5.    Evaluate debt ratio, loan-to-value ratios, credit score, property valuation and various other factors.

6.    Review all forms and disclosures making sure they are in compliance with Federal and State guidelines. 

7.    Ability to make loan decision independently (approve or deny loan)

8.    Complete assigned files within established time frame. 

9.    May be required to assist in the training of residential origination staff members.

10. Write/update policies and procedures relating to Residential Mortgage Lending.

11. Provides support to management in the development and implementation of special reports and/or special projects to maintain a sound and solid loan portfolio.

12. Adhere to NCUA regulations relating to Residential Mortgage Lending.

13. Must be have the ability to be NMLS registered.

14. Performs other duties as assigned by management.

15. Comply with all aspects of BSA/AML and OFAC regulations as it relates to this position.

Desired Qualifications:

  1. College degree or equivalent work experience.
  2. At least 2 years of recent experience in residential mortgage underwriting.
  3. Knowledge and familiarity with current mortgage and compliance laws and regulations. 
  4. Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  5. Ability to interact positively with management, coworkers, members, and venders to promote a team effort and maintain a positive attitude even under extreme pressure.
  6. Well organized, and able to process detailed information with accuracy and efficiency, and the ability to work independently, meeting deadlines.
  7. Ability to multi-task.
  8. Comprehensive knowledge regarding application of State and NCUA guidelines pertaining to Residential Mortgage Lending.  
  9. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Physical Job Requirements:

Must be physically able to operate a variety of automated office machines such as calculator, computer, printer, facsimile, telephone, copier, etc. Must be able to stand, bend and stoop as needed.  Must be able to lift and/or carry weights up to 20 pounds.
