Security Systems Engineer

The Security Systems Engineer is a contributing source of technical engineering and support for Assurance’s computer and network security infrastructure in response to changes in regulations and risk. He or she provides an enhanced level of end-user support, technical project work, and infrastructure maintenance with an emphasize on security related deliverables. The Security Systems Engineer is a key member of the IT team that requires learning the organization – a comprehensive awareness of its technology and information needs – and using this knowledge to develop and test security structures to protect its systems.


PROCESS AND SYSTEMS QUALITY

 

  • Achieves IT operational objectives by maintaining current IT security systems and processes and evaluates, recommends, tests and installs new security technology
  • Resolves problems, completes audits; identifies trends; determines system improvements while implementing change
  • Secures systems by developing system access, monitoring and control plans
  •  Supports disaster recovery policies and procedures development; Audits back-ups; maintains documentation
  • Serves as IT security advocate, maintaining, training and administering all appropriate security measures according to HIPAA policy and other regulations relevant to our organization
  • Regularly analyses security at all levels, including physical, perimeter, network, endpoint, application and data security
  • Maintains system performance by performing system monitoring and analysis, and performance tuning; Troubleshoots system hardware, software, networks and operating and system management systems
  • Partners with other areas in execution of incident response plans
  • Shares expertise during system updates, installations, conversions and routine maintenance
  • Provides timely and clear communication to internal audiences during planned and unplanned system downtime and other technology situations

 

EXECUTION OF CLIENT SERVICE

  • Provides support for escalated incidents
  • Builds rapport and elicits problem details from team members
  • Achieves positive survey ratings as defined by team standards
  • Performs post-resolution follow ups to identify and remediate root cause issues

 

INNOVATION

  • Recommends and implements new security solutions to improve the efficiency of the organization’s processes and communications, confidentiality, integrity or availability of systems and data
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations, conferences or training

REQUIRED:

 

  • 3+ years’ experience in:
    • Microsoft Stack
      • Office 365
      • Microsoft Azure
      • Windows Server and Desktop operating systems
      • Advanced Active Directory management (GPOs, ACLs, etc)
      • RADIUS and ADFS
    • Networking
      • Network Routers, Switches, and Firewalls
      • VLANs, ACLs, routing protocols
    • Security
      • Endpoint protection systems
      • Log analysis
      • Security Platforms – SIEM, IDS, IPS, or Patch Management

 

PREFERRED:

  • BS/BA in Information Systems or related field
  • MCSA or equivalent
  • CCNA or equivalent Cisco certification
  • Experience with an ITSM platform such as ServiceNow
  • Recognized security industry certification (e.g. CISSP, OSCP, GIAC)
  • Experience with Security Frameworks (NIST, ISO, CIS, etc)
  • Insurance industry experience
