Engineering Technologist - Impact Lab

As an Engineering Technologist - Experimental Impact Lab, you will:
  • Perform duties within the Experimental Impact Laboratory including machining of sample holders and projectiles, and designing and fabricating test fixtures for support of experimental work.
  • Participate in experiments by operating the three high-velocity launch facilities in the Experimental Impact Laboratory to the standards of the customer.
  • Perform maintenance and operation of electrical, hydraulic, thermal, pneumatic, cryogenic, and other types of mechanical systems in assigned laboratories or work areas, including research, documentation, acquiring parts, repairing, and calibration of electro-mechanical devices and systems.
  • Determine and develop methods, procedures, and laboratory apparatus required to fulfill assignments and achieve prescribed objectives.
  • Adhere to written and standardized operating procedures, policies, and protocols for use of laboratory equipment.
  • Operate standard equipment and/or instruments including hand-held power tools and manual (i.e., non-CNC) machine shop tools (e.g., lathes, drill press, mills, band saw, etc.).
  • Practice machine shop safety protocols.
  • Read and interpret blue prints.
  • Have an ability to visualize and solve practical problems.
  • Work in a team environment.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS Degree from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the field or related area.
  • Extensive experience with manual machine shop tools (i.e., lathes, drill press, mills, band saw, etc.).
  • Ability to operate and handle basic hand-held and/or power tools.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic technical drawings and schematics of laboratory and facility systems.
  • Troubleshooting and problem solving capabilities.
  • Ability to comprehend basic technical terminology and communicate effectively with others, including customers and team members.
  • Basic math skills.
  • General computer and typing skills.
  • Knowledge of general engineering.
  • Military experience a plus.
  • Work experience with pyrotechnics a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience with electrical systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with vacuum systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with pressure systems.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
