Job Description

Position Summary

We are looking for a Valuation Expert / Appraiser who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial growth environment. As part of the credit organization, the Valuation Expert / Appraiser will be responsible for all internal and outsourced valuation activities at Ashmore Partners. This individual will manage the AMC / appraiser network, conduct field appraisals, perform desk reviews, and leverage automated valuation tools as required. j

Responsibilities

  • Complete residential and commercial real estate appraisals that are compliant with Federal and State laws, as well as being done in accordance with Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP)
  • Prepare written appraisals through on-site inspections, customer interviews, and third-party research
  • Render valuation (both “as is” and “as repaired” after examination of all variables impacting a property’s present or future value (comparables, understanding of appropriate adjustments, cash flow, future rehab/development, market trends etc.)
  • Respond to inquiries from credit, sales, operations, and management in order to resolve appraisal disputes
  • Monitor the appraisal pipeline to ensure expected service levels are met
  • Manage AMCs and appraiser network to ensure appropriate geographic coverage, high quality, fast turn times, competitive rates, and effective workload balancing
    • Perform appraisal network management functions including vendor selection, pricing, quality control, and compliance
    • Ensure all third party appraisals are delivered in a timely manner
    • Evaluate the quality of appraisers' work though periodic quality control reviews
    • Communicate with appraisers regarding any report corrections and/or revisions
    • Responsible for performing escalated reviews and/or desk reviews on appraisal reports that are completed by licensed independent appraisers
  • Provide proactive reports and status updates at the order level and respond to all communications in a prompt and professional manner
  • Act as company market expert to inform senior management decisions
  • Interact with business partners, vendors, investors, and consultants, as required
  • Maintain and update the Valuation Policy and Procedure Manual
  • Ad hoc projects, as assigned

Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge of mortgage appraisal concepts, practices and procedures
  • Strong understanding of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP)
  • Broad knowledge of residential and/or commercial properties and real estate markets within the New Jersey and/or Pennsylvania areas
  • In-depth understanding of property operating statements, leases, rent rolls, real estate schedules and the ability to perform detailed cash flow analysis using CRE templates
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to travel to complete appraisal assignments
  • Ability to perform work both indoors and outdoors including being exposed to inclement weather during appraisal inspections
  • Strong working knowledge of MS office and Sharepoint; Encompass experience a plus
  • Ability to act independently and consistently make appropriate decisions with minimal guidance and oversight
  • Strong attention to detail with a risk management mindset
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service, conflict management, teamwork and coaching
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, managing time and resources to ensure work is completed efficiently within established timeframes
  • Naturally inquisitive with strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion in daily activities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure with tight deadlines and constant interruptions
  • Ability to flexibly adjust priorities in a changing environment
  • Self-motivated team player with a strong work ethic and high level of personal accountability
  • Positive personality with a high level of integrity and professional ethics

Education & Experience

  • Certified Residential or Certified General Appraiser license in good standing
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, real estate, or related fields from an accredited college/university
  • Appraisal oversight experience preferred
  • 3+ years of commercial and/or residential appraisal experience; commercial appraisal experience a plus
  • Institutional experience preferred (bank, mortgage company, etc.)
