Job Summary: Plans, organizes and manages all activities relating to the procurement, storage, reprocessing and distribution of supplies.  Supervises activities of shipping,  receiving, purchasing, forms management, and beeper system.  Manages inventory for Operating Room orthopedic implantable (including consignment stock), Operating Room IOL consignment stock, Operating Room Supply Room (ORSR), General Stores (including IV stock), and sub stock areas (including crash carts).  Maintains and coordinates service agreement file and log, coordinates annual renewal of service agreements. Coordinates recalls (excluding Pharmacy). Coordinates in-house Bio Medical Service. Coordinates services for rental equipment. Maintains Group Purchasing Organization compliance.

Shift: Full-Time Exempt

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements and maintains the appropriate policies, procedures and internal controls for all applicable material functions
  • Coordinates productive hours, space, equipment and expense as they relate to materials and service contracts
  • Studies, plans, organizes, and administers the material requirements of the hospital. The related functions include purchasing, receiving, warehousing, inventory control, supply distribution, and financial accounting of supplies distributed
  • Supervises the recruitment, hiring, job assignments, and training of all employees in the functions mentioned above
  • Maintains good working relationships with all departments of the Hospital, by providing the highest level of service, management assistance and open communication
  • Consults with department managers to resolve supply and equipment needs, and assists with implementation of Material Management practices in other hospital departments
  • Reviews requests for equipment, furnishings, supplies, others items to that purchase requisitions meet with hospital policies and budget guidelines
  • Furnishes routine and special reports and information to CEO, CFO, and department managers
  • Develops Department staff via ongoing inservice education, on-the-job training, evaluations and open Departmental meetings
  • Coordinates the taking of periodic inventories and examination of records for accuracy and adherence to physical inventory
  • Maintains adequate supply levels throughout the facility, utilizing the PAR level replenishment system.  Review of all PAR level utilization is essential in this process
  • Represents the hospital in negotiations for supplies and equipment, with the objective of obtaining the best cost/benefit ratio with the exception of pharmaceuticals and dietary products
  • Implements procedures during downtime of facility’s computerized system to assure uninterrupted service of the department
  • Assists and directs other departments during absence of department managers in regards to supplies and equipment necessary to maintain service level of the department
  • Acts as the chairperson of the Product Evaluation Committee
  • Performs other duties as assigned       


  • Progressive experience in material management operations of the health care field or other related experience preferred


  • High School Graduate or equivalent. 

Working Conditions:

  • Extensive computer time. May require sitting for long periods, up to 8 hours with encouragement to stand, stretch, or move about occasionally
  • Repetitive motion including lifting small packages, computer typing, keying and scanning
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, greater than 50 pounds must have assistance
  • Visual and hearing ability for purchasing activities
  • General indoor conditions, exposure to below 32 degrees and above 80 degree temperatures
  • Noise: light to moderate noise
  • Good verbal and written communication skills necessary for job requirements
  • Some travel required for meetings
  • Must be able to respond to the facility within 30 minutes for management duties/disasters/call
  • Management Duties required
