Department: Human Resource

Direct Reports: 3

Reports to: Executive Vice President

Employee Type: Full-Time, exempt

Required Travel: Occasional travel

 

Job summary

 

Ascend’s HR Manager plays a key role for Ascend Staffing. This position is primarily responsible for carrying out various HR policies, procedures, and programs for both in-house and field employees. The HR Manager acts as an advisor and problem solver to the offices and executives on complex HR issues and is responsible for leading all functions of the HR department. The HR Manager will also work frequently with the other department heads to solve problems and set standards for the company.

 

Essential Functions & Duties

 

  • Lead the HR department through the completion of goals, objectives and initiatives
  • Maintain the integrity of the company handbook, policies and procedures and update them as needed
  • Build and maintain relationships with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee-related issues and follow up appropriately
  • Provide coaching to leadership on complex HR issues including compensation, performance issues, investigations, employment laws, employee relations, documentation, etc.
  • Oversee semi-monthly payroll processing and billing
  • Conduct exit interviews
  • Oversee the design, administration and compliance of in-house and field employee benefit plans
  • Remain current on changes in State and Federal laws and ensuring the organization is in compliance
  • Train on employment laws, benefits and related policies and procedures during new hire trainings
  • Other special projects and assignments as needed

 

Skills & Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of HR management experience; Master’s degree with 1 year of HR management experience, or equivalent  
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office including Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and HRIS
  • Self-starter that works well in dynamic situations and with minimum supervision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks based on urgency
  • Proactive leader with strong organization and follow-up skills, ability to manage up and down
  • Team player that is willing to assist other departments when needed
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Understands when to escalate an issue and uses discretion with confidential information
