Position Profile









OVERVIEW

The Children?s Home Society of North Carolina (CHS) seeks an experienced Regional Director of Philanthropy (RDP) to cultivate, solicit and steward individual donors in an assigned region (Raleigh to NC coast, including Fayetteville and Wilmington) to support the work of Children?s Home Society, with a particular emphasis on leadership and major gifts. The Director supports community engagement in CHS through individual relationship management and a volunteer-led advisory committee. CHS?s team of dedicated fundraising professionals located in major metropolitan areas across the state advance the philanthropic mission of CHS in support of its $25 million annual budget.







Children?s Home Society has been serving children and families for more than a century, with programs built on its mission to promote the right of every child to a permanent, safe, and loving family. Founded in 1902, CHS has placed more than 16,000 children into loving, adoptive homes. While CHS is perhaps best known for its work related to foster care and adoption, it is much more than a placement agency. Through parent and teen education programs and professional training, it promotes healthy environments to thousands of families, serving more than 20,000 clients each year, with a statewide staff and offices in 10 cities across North Carolina.







Known for innovation in evidenced-based programming, CHS of North Carolina is a national leader in permanency and family strengthening programs. Through its programming, CHS has earned the trust and the investment of some of the nation?s leading charitable foundations and the faithful support of individuals, families, and corporations across North Carolina. Guided by a strategic plan facilitated by the Bridgespan group, CHS committed and is on track to soon double the number of children it serves. It seeks the skill and passion of an experienced major gifts professional who is similarly committed to growing our philanthropic support.







Area of Responsibility



Major and Planned Gifts





+ Develops ongoing philanthropic relationships with individual donors and prospects, focusing on leadership ($1,000+) and major gifts ($10,000+), and planned gifts



+ Accountable for three primary outcomes: (1) dollars raised/goals achieved (2) # of visits (3) # of proposals



+ Identifies, cultivates and closes leadership solicitations through relationship fundraising as well as through annual outreach/events including, but not limited to, A Place to Call Home, Little Red Stocking, and Hope for the Holidays, through direct mail, event asks, in-person meetings and donor gatherings



+ Stewards donors with a goal of ensuring a robust future pipeline of philanthropic support



+ Develops and implements donor strategies throughout the RDP?s territory in collaboration with the Vice President of Philanthropy



+ Partners with Corporate Philanthropic Specialist to cultivate local corporate decision-makers as donors, sponsors, and volunteers



+ Maintains up-to-date donor records in database following donor contact



+ Works with team on briefing materials, presentations, proposals, acknowledgements and reports as needed





Regional Engagement





+ Provides staff support for regional volunteer Community Leadership Council (CLC) and related volunteer opportunities



+ Encourages and maintains high regional engagement with prospects, donors, and community leaders through CHS events, CLC, and other opportunities



+ Speaks dynamically and empathetically to small to mid-size groups about the needs to CHS clients to philanthropic support



+ Supports marketing efforts with ideas for year-round communication and engagement

+ Works collaboratively with team to achieve department and organizational goals



+ Demonstrates a drive to achieve goals



+ Coaches, motivates, engages, and collaborates with colleagues and volunteers to deliver outstanding results









General





+ Displays sensitivity to the service population?s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics



+ Communicates clearly and effectively



+ Makes donors feel important and appreciated



+ Maintains confidentiality with sensitive information



+ Performs other duties related to division goals and projects as needed









Qualifications





+ Bachelor?s degree required; graduate degree preferred



+ Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience



+ Demonstrated success using fundraising techniques and skills to expand, cultivate and manage existing donor relationships over time while also initiating new relationships with donors, prospects and volunteers



+ Demonstrated ability to handle multiple fundraising activities, deadlines and priorities simultaneously



+ Ability to motivate donors and volunteers while cultivating their connection to CHS



+ Strong communication skills, both written and verbal



+ Detail and goal-oriented, with excellent organization skills and ability to work independently or as a member of a team



+ Excellent relationship building and relationship management skills



+ Event experience preferred



+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and donor information system (Raisers Edge)



+ Maintain a valid North Carolina driver?s license, adequate auto insurance, and have access to an operating vehicle in order to attend to CHS business
