### Summary
This position is located at the Armed Forces Retirement Home,
Gulfport, MS (AFRH-G), Healthcare Services. The primary purpose of
the position is to schedule internal AFRH and external specialty
care medical appointments, operate the referral management process,
manage provider schedules, and coordinate transportation.

### Responsibilities
**As a Medical Support Assistant, you will:**
\- **Serve as the Medical Scheduler/Receptionist, performing duties
that involve providing excellent Resident services via phone and in
person; referring callers to the appropriate departments; making
appointments and referrals for specialty care for Residents
according to established protocols.**
\- **Be responsible for making all internal AFRH appointments to
include, but not limited to pre-employment physical examination,
Resident pre-admission on-site medical evaluation, new Residents
check-in history and physical examination, Resident annual
assessment, immunization screenings, Coumadin Clinic, routine,
podiatry, psychology, and other appointments as necessary.**
**- Be responsible for making all outside medical office/treatment
facility appointments to include, but not limited to: specialty
care, tests, diagnostics, examinations and referrals at Keesler
Medical Center, Biloxi Veterans Hospital, Gulfport Memorial and
Singing River Healthcare Systems and other various local dental and
healthcare providers.**
\- **Operate, maintain, and document the referral management
process.**
**- Generate Daily Schedule from electronic scheduling software
system at the end of each day and distributes to medical providers,
nursing staff and others as directed.**

### Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this
announcement.
**Specialized experience:** For the GS-**05**, you must have one
year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and
responsibility equivalent to the GS-**04** grade level in the
Federal service. Specialized experience for this position
includes:
**-Applying a standardized body of rules, procedures, and operations
sufficient to perform a full range of support assignments (examples
of support assignments may include: schedule coordination,
appointment services, and reconciling problems); AND
-Providing customer service with individuals.**
**OR**
**Successfully completion of 4 years of education above the high
school level. This education must have been obtained in an
accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior
college, college or university.**
**OR**
**A combination of education and experience that has equipped the
applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to
perform successfully the duties of this position.**
SPECIAL NOTE: Long-term care experience and/or interacting with
geriatric patients is highly desired.

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**:
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Must successfully complete a Public trust background
investigation.
- Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your

- Pass a pre-employment physical examination. An OF-178, Certificate
of Medical Examination will be required if selected for this
position. **DO NOT SUBMIT AT TIME OF APPLICATION.
-** Selectees will be subject to the AFRH Tuberculosis Surveillance
Program.
- File a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of
appointment and annually from then on.
- Because the AFRH-G's mission requires uninterrupted, direct human
support and medical care for its Residents, this position is
considered essential for continuing AFRH-G operations. Therefore,
the incumbent is expected to arrive for duty on time, as scheduled,
and to complete the assigned tour during emergency situations such
as hazardous weather.
