Special Education Teacher -Severe/Profound Students w/ Autism-Starting at 65K

Arizona Autism Charter School is our state's first and only autism-focused charter school! We are growing and are looking for passionate teachers with experience with severe/profound students needing intensive supports.

Our teachers receive support from Program Managers with expertise in Applied Behavior Analysis. There is planning and prepping time every Wednesday afternoon, when students have early release. Teachers also have a paid week every quarter to plan and prepare lessons. Be a part of a data-driven program that delivers results for kids!

Candidates must have experienced with students who need intensive supports, such as communication via picture exchange or AAC device, implementing IEP goals, and behavior plans. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to be trained, coached and be able to motivate instructional staff in the classroom. The SPED Teacher will work hand-in-hand with the SPED Program Manager and the ABA Manager implementing a best-practice education model to achieve optimal results for students on the autism spectrum and related disorders.


  • Lesson plan and prepare lessons based in AZACS adopted curriculum
  • Differentiate instruction based on student needs and IEP goals
  • Serve as lead teacher and point person in a classroom of 8-10 student
  • Work with a classroom team that includes Behavior Specialists and support and oversight of two Program Managers
  • Ensure classroom support staff are implementing instructional strategies and lessons as planned
  • Create a safe and effective learning environment
  • Weekly lesson planning for instruction of state standards with support staff and SPED Program Manager
  • Provide daily feedback to support staff
  • Be receptive to observations and in-the-moment coaching
  • Collect and report data with high fidelity and analyze data bi-weekly to make instructional decisions
  • Regular parent communication following AZACS guidelines
  • Maintain substitute plans in case of Instructional Lead absence
  • Participate in all duties and responsibilities as appropriate for an AZACS faculty member
  • Write IEPs and create goals for students. Track data toward progress.
  • Other duties as assigned by the administration

Minimum Qualifications:

  • AZ Special Education Teacher Certification, or ability to obtain if teacher is from out of state
  • At least 3 years of experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities
  • Mastery and enthusiasm for best practices in autism education and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
  • Track record of success in behavior management with students with autism or other special needs
  • Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance
  • Ability to communicate with parents, co-workers and professional contacts in a courteous and professional manner and following AZACS guidelines
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality
  • Experience in structured teaching, center-based model preferred


  • Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card
  • AZ Special Education Teacher Certification, or ability to obtain if teacher is from out of state

Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Set-up of lessons and instructional activities for classroom support staff. Coaches, monitors, and mentors classroom support staff working with students with disabilities.


Positions in this class require: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work:

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.

Working Conditions:

Work is routinely performed in an indoor and outdoor classroom setting.
