Purpose of Your Job Position
The primary purpose of your job position is to provide treatment services and recreational activities for individuals with disabilities or illnesses, using a variety of techniques to improve and maintain the physical, cognitive, social, spiritual and emotional well-being of the residents.
Duties and Responsibilities
Administrative Functions
• Provide care to residents to reduce depression, stress, and anxiety; recover basic motor functioning and reasoning abilities; build confidence; and socialize effectively so that they can enjoy greater independence and reduce or eliminate the effects of their illness or disability.
• Teach leisure education to those who may no longer be able to do their prior hobby to find enjoyment in something new.
• Prepare residents with disabilities to integrate into the community by teaching them how to use community resources and recreational activities.
• Treat and rehabilitate residents with specific health conditions, in conjunction or collaboration with physicians, nurses, psychologists, social workers, and physical, speech and occupational therapists.
• Use leisure activities-especially structured group programs-to improve and maintain the residents' general health and well-being.
• Provide interventions to prevent residents from suffering further medical problems and complications.
• Assess residents, using information from observations, medical records, standardized assessments, medical staff, families and residents themselves.
• Develop and carry out therapeutic interventions consistent with the resident's needs and interests. (Example: encourage residents who are isolated from others or who have limited social skills to play games and interact with others.
• Instruct residents in relaxation techniques to reduce stress and tension, stretching and limbering exercises, proper body mechanics for participation in recreational activities, pacing and energy conservation techniques, and team activities.
• Observe and document a resident's participation, reactions, and progress.
• Use interventions to develop specific skills, while providing opportunities for exercise, mental stimulation, creativity, and fun.
Education
Candidates must have Bachelor's Degree and be eligible to sit for NCTRC exam within 6 months of hire date.
Experience
Must have, as a minimum, 1 years experience in a health care setting.
