Arbor Springs of West Des Moines, the leader in dementia care, is looking to fill a few choice openings for CNAs in our resident community. These positions provide personal care and supervision to residents in a manner conducive to their safety, comfort, security, and the greatest degree of independence possible. Arbor Springs is a 56 bed skilled facility specializing in Alzheimer’s and dementia care. These positions offer a unique opportunity to work with a dedicated professional staff in a home like environment. -Perform resident care techniques and procedures according to certification instruction, in-service education, or instruction from supervisor. Ex. ADLs
-Conduct resident rounds as assigned.
-Be responsible for the safety of residents under his/her supervision – which includes identifying safety hazards and emergency situations, and initiating corrective action.
-Document incidents and/or unusual problems according to established facility procedures.
-Observe and verbally report to the Charge Nurse accurate and timely information concerning assigned residents, such as change in medical condition or health status, lack of response or resistance to care, special problems, unusual incidents, resident needs or requests, behavioral or psychosocial concerns; document in writing according to established procedures or as requested.
-Comply with procedures for safe lifting, transferring, and handling of residents; assume responsibility for safety of residents under immediate supervision or in caseload assignment at any given time; report and document incidents/injuries according to established procedures.
-Listen to resident and family questions and complaints and responds in a calm, concerned manner, controlling emotions such as anger and frustration; report problems to Charge Nurse in a timely manner.
-Document in the nursing assistant notes the care and treatment provided to the resident and the resident’s response or lack of response to care provided.
-Assure residents have call lights at hand and answer call lights promptly.
-Assure residents are given adequate assistance with meals, nourishment and transportation to meal service area(s).
-Participate in information exchange with staff from preceding and following shifts to assure continuity of care to assigned residents.
-Assist Program Coordinator and Activity Director by providing each of the outlined daily activities in the assigned neighborhood, including but not limited to, effectively conducting small group activities, setting up individual activities, providing 1:1 activities, helping transport residents to and from activities, and using appropriate caregiving techniques to approach residents to join activities.
Current, valid Iowa Nursing Assistant Certification, as evidenced by listing on Iowa’s Nurse Aide Registry or documentation of successful completion of competency and skills tests from an approved testing agency. High school diploma or equivalent.
