Job Description

Apex Microtechnology, Inc. is currently accepting applications for a Mechanical Engineer. This role will report directly to the Director of Engineering and will support new product development in the design and development of state-of-the-art microelectronic component solutions. This role will focus primarily on the design of enclosures for electronic devices housing individual or multiple semiconductor devices. The design methods may include modifications to existing hermetic metal or potted cases as well as Chip on Board configurations or newly developed methods to expand product capabilities. Must be a US Citizen or lawful permanent resident.

Key Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • New Package Material/Technology evaluation
  • Derivative designs based on existing packages
  • Ground Up, New Package Development with customer facing requirements gathering
  • Product Test fixture and adaptor updates for new packages
  • Work with outside consultants, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to identify and develop package components and assemblies
  • Working with the Design/Process teams ensures the smooth transition of new designs into production, including supporting pilot runs and full manufacturing ramp-up
  • Generate package drawings that go into product datasheets and evaluation datasheets
  • Performs Design for X (X=automation, test, manufacturing) reviews
  • Reliability prediction simulation and analysis (COMSOL or equivalent multi-physics)
  • Competitive analysis of other power packages in the market

Requirements

Required Experience

  • Solid modeling and drafting
    • Working knowledge of 3D Modeling Software Tool (Creo PTC/Autodesk Inventor/Solidworks)
    • Working knowledge of GD&T
  • Manufacturing tooling development
  • Rapid prototyping
  • Machining with the ability to make minor modifications to prototypes
  • Working knowledge of thermodynamics and thermal management in electronics/semiconductor applications.
  • Understanding of packaging structures, materials, process flow, and qualification methods
  • Material characterization and evaluation experience

Qualifications

  • US Citizen or lawful permanent resident
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar with 5+ years’ experience
  • Excellent technical problem solving & multi-tasking skills
  • Data-driven with proven ability to apply scientific and engineering concepts
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a dynamic environment
  • Effective communication, interaction, and team-working skills
  • Good task management skills and experience working with project management
