Apex is seeking an energetic, organized, and action-oriented Field Manager ready to build support for renewable energy projects across the state of North Dakota. The Field Manager will be responsible for managing the execution of public engagement activities in their assigned state(s). The Field Manager will report to one of Apex's Public Engagement Managers (PEM). Depending on the needs of their assigned state, the Field Manager may also be responsible for supervising one or more Field Organizers. The Field Manager will travel to North Dakota project communities to assist the [State] project development team in meeting with key stakeholders, managing grassroots outreach, including, but not limited to, providing presentations and workshops and hosting events and meetings.
The Field Manager will collaborate with their supervising PEM to develop and execute engagement strategies and plans that are unique to each project's timeline and needs and reflective of Apex's overall goals in North Dakota. The ideal applicant for the Field Manager position will demonstrate interest in and knowledge of local political dynamics in North Dakota, sensitivity to working within the electoral rules governing political activity in the state, and familiarity with city and county land use regulations.
Qualified candidates will be hands-on, hardworking team players who are eager to jump in and support projects and people from a variety of angles. The position requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to balance priorities and be flexible in a rapidly changing environment. Previous experience in campaigns or issue advocacy is highly desirable. Candidates who understand or appreciate farm practices, and who possess a strong personal commitment to renewable energy, community engagement, business, and/or rural economic development will be well suited for this role.

- Traveling to projects to support project teams and public engagement strategy on a regular basis
- Maintaining daily communication with the supervising PEM
- Building and maintaining key local stakeholder relationships
- Attending important one-on-one meetings with local officials and sensitive stakeholders
- Professionally representing Apex Clean Energy at various business, local government, and community functions in North Dakota
- Leading advocacy and persuasion activities in the field
- Strategizing the best use of various databases and systems, including but not limited to NationBuilder and Smartsheets, and ensuring that all data is entered accurately and kept up to date
- Supporting event planning and execution
- Assisting with local media, when appropriate
- Monitoring local social and traditional media
- Monitoring county and local municipal proceedings related to renewable energy for North Dakota projects
- Helping to cultivate advocates in North Dakota project communities to contact, and attend meetings of, local elected officials and agencies in support of renewable energy
- Presenting to local groups, classes, and organizations in North Dakota project areas
- Drafting letters of support for renewable energy for various audiences
- Helping to develop grassroots marketing strategies as needed
- Training and coaching local field staff on fundamental organizing skills
- Willing and able to live in or around our project areas in North Dakota
- This role will require regular travel within North Dakota and occasional travel out-of-state
- Bachelor's degree or 3+ years of work experience in a similar setting
- At least 1 year or 1 election cycle of campaign or outreach experience
- Demonstrated experience driving volunteer engagement
- Passion for working in policy, communications, public affairs, and local government relations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated leadership and relationship management skills
- Demonstrated successful management experience
- Ability to take part in collaborative efforts with peers and colleagues

Works traditional office hours in an indoor office environment. Evening / weekend hours required when work duties and business operations necessitate.
