Public Affairs Business Strategy Plan Director - Washington DC

The Public Affairs Business Strategy Plan Director is responsible for leading and executing on the Public Affairs Department's overall strategy, annual planning, and ongoing operations and business change management. The incumbent will collaborate across the department and with shared service and enterprise partners to ensure continuing progress on and successful completion of key department initiatives, timely response to enterprise-wide priorities and requests of the department, and proactive monitoring of issues that may require engagement of the Public Affairs team.

The incumbent will take a broad strategic view of the activities needed to support the Public Affairs department in enhancing and optimizing our engagement with the enterprise lines of business as well as with our shared services partners. The incumbent will cultivate effective relationships with the direct reports of the SVP, Public Affairs; shared service partners of Public Affairs; and enterprise business leads as identified.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Supports the planning process and the execution of the annual strategic and operating plans that include internal and external communications and associate engagement activities.
  • Drives executive reporting, project communications, and management of issues logs.
  • Anticipates needed resources and work products, and keeps the department on track to secure resources and/or develop products, in order to meet enterprise and department priorities/initiatives.
  • Facilitates project meetings, manages deliverables to the SVP, and ensures resolution of escalated issues.
  • Maintains a system for tracking, triaging, and ensuring timely follow-up for requests of SVP.
  • Develops and coordinates presentations and materials for executive management meetings, internal and external speaking engagements and meetings for the SVP.
  • Provides process, project, and change management methodology coaching/consulting support for department and enterprise initiatives.
  • Develops and designs processes and systems that support business needs, and identifies best practices.
  • Collaborates with department colleagues and enterprise resources to plan and execute the annual department-wide Public Affairs offsite meeting.
  • Serves as liaison with Finance to develop, monitor, and track metrics supporting budget and spend.
  • Manages variance process, staffing plans, and staffing changes.
  • Manages vendors, including contracting, negotiations, and payment, in collaboration with department and shared services partners.
  • Serves as liaison with HR to ensure timely goal-setting, succession planning, performance and other annual requirements are met.

  • Key Qualifications
  • Proficient with MS Office (Excel and PowerPoint required).
  • Knowledge of or experience with managed care, health care policy, political process, and related issues impacting the business and managed care industry.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Strong strategic thinking and analytic skills; approaches solutions strategically and creatively.
  • Organizational, consultation, negotiation and persuasion skills required.
  • Candidate must be task and project-oriented with an excellent sense of priority, logic, and objectivity.
  • Ability to work independently, with minimal oversight, and to proactively identify and raise issues and course correct as necessary.
  • Fosters teamwork and collaboration within and across large cross-functional groups.

  • Requirements:
  • Requires a BA/BS degree in a related field; advanced degree in business, law, public policy, public health, economics, organizational management, or a related field preferred.
  • Requires 8-10 years' experience in large-scale project management, consulting, strategic planning, and/or project implementation that includes execution and leadership of cross-functional initiatives, vendor management, negotiation, budgeting, and reporting.
