Annunciation Orthodox School (AOS) seeks an Athletic Director to lead the growth and development of our athletic program while generating community-wide enthusiasm for AOS sports and mind-body wellness. Successful candidates will be energetic, collaborative, detail-oriented, and dedicated to developing students’ character. The AOS athletic program is well-respected among our peers and our teams routinely compete for championships. Our new Athletic Director will continue to strive for excellence, while ensuring that our program remains focused on participation, skill development, good sportsmanship, and strong character. Reports to: Head of School

Status: Salaried/Exempt

Start Date: July 13, 2020

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM; additional time as needed for after-school practices and games.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate scheduling and organization of athletic practices, games, transportation, game officials, and athletic trainers

  • Work closely with other Houston Junior Preparatory Conference (HJPC) athletic directors to ensure scheduling and policies that align with the AOS mission and values

  • Refine and reinforce a clear, mission-aligned vision for AOS athletics

  • Recruit, hire, assign, and mentor full-time and part-time coaches

  • Provide leadership to the AOS athletic staff by building a collaborative team that holds itself accountable to high degrees of competence, professionalism, and respect

  • Coordinate special programs such as the athletic awards and full-school pep rallies

  • Coordinate all athletic tournaments held on campus and the use of all AOS athletic facilities

  • Create and maintain a budget for all athletic programs; purchase necessary equipment and uniforms

  • Ensure the maintenance, cleanliness and security of all athletic equipment, facilities, and uniforms

  • Build a positive rapport and collaborate with staff, students, parents, administrators, alumni and community members

  • Design and execute the general evaluation process for all coaches

  • Provide support to and facilitate professional development for coaches

  • Additional duties as determined by the Head of School

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health, fitness or education; Master’s degree preferred

  • Minimum of 7 years coaching experience; independent school experience preferred

  • Strong leadership, management, and team-building skills

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills

  • Willingness and ability to work a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends
