Job Description
Animal Emergency & Specialty Center of Knoxville is the 24-hour partner to your neighborhood veterinarian, here to manage illnesses and injuries when your neighborhood veterinarian is closed and equipped with the tools and knowledge for advanced diagnostics, evaluation, and treatment that’s beyond the scope of most veterinary practices. We are currently seeking a full time surgery anesthesia technician to assist our surgeons! Essential functions: Demonstrates ability to work as a team member and to communicate directly and professionally. Must be reliable, flexible, productive, self-motivated and patient oriented. Obtain and record patient histories. Dispense and administer medications and treatments as prescribed by veterinarians. Administer and monitor anesthesia under the direction of a veterinarian. Properly document anesthetic events in medical record. Be able to recognize anesthetic complications and institute proper corrective actions. Be able to calculate drug dosages. Monitor patients during post-operative recovery including extubation, pain control, and preparation for discharge or hospitalization. Be efficient in entering patient charges into our paperless software applications (Ezyvet & Smartflow). Provide specialized nursing care for all hospitalized patients. Prepare patients, instruments and equipment for surgery. Maintain cleanliness and sterility of operating rooms. Ability to take anesthesia on-call shifts (Required) Able to work Tuesday through Friday between the hours of 7am to 5pm. Provide technical assistance during procedures in the operating room. Take and transfer all digital radiographs with proper PPE (Rocketpacs). Knowledgeable regarding related federal and state animal health laws and regulations including OSHA, AAHA, and DEA. Regular attendance and timeliness are an essential function in order to fulfill the requirements of this position. Strong communication and client service skills. Ability to work with clients and patients in a professional, friendly, hospitable manner.
