Job Title: Branch Member Service Representative
Duration: Contract-to-hire (depending on performance evaluation)
Location: El Monte, CA
Schedule: Monday to Friday 8 AM to 5 PM, Saturdays 9 AM to 1 PM
Pay Rate: $15.50 an hour
Amtec is urgently seeking an excellent Branch Member Service Representative for a Credit Union in El Monte! Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Open and offer new membership after verification of eligibility. Process all types of accounts, including business, decedent, IRAs, and Trust accounts. Assist members with the processing of Power of Attorney, Conservatorship, specialty accounts and forwarding necessary documents to Support Services.
Become and remain familiar with all types of programs and services offered by the credit union in order to cross-sell. Learn and understand all policies and procedures related to such programs. Demonstrate knowledge of each type of account offered to members. Knowledge of dividend calculations, dividend forfeitures, minimum balance requirements, etc. Open Share Certificates and ensure members receive current dividend rates.
Ensure accurate and timely processing of check orders through the mainframe ordering system and completion of membership cards and other new account forms, ensuring that proper documentation and disclosures are complete and sent for scanning.
Obtain valid and proper identification for all transactions. Process and enter security passwords on system upon member’s request.
Assist members with the handling of suspected fraudulent inquiries by adhering to the check forgery procedures. Change draft numbers, as appropriate
Maintain security of own checks for daily deposit and careful maintenance of cash received, checks and keys. Adhere to cash balancing standards.
Accurate and timely balancing of own work and negotiable items and ensuring that proper cash limits are maintained at all times.
Add or delete joint owners from existing accounts, per primary member’s request. Change addresses upon request.
Accept and enter members’ requests for stop payment on personal checks as well as credit union issued checks. Assist with ACH stop payment and ACH affidavit.
Encode and issue temporary checks to members for their personal checking, money market and line of credit accounts, logging each checking account number, and starter kit issued.
Maintain confidentiality of member accounts and records. Ensure members’ balances are always written down; never verbally quoted.
Assist members with wire transfers (domestic and international)
Complete Visa, Check Card, and ATM fraud forms, as needed. Assist members with questions regarding Visa, ATM and/or utilizing Mag-Tek terminals to issue PIN numbers, ATM instant issue cards and complete home banking forms.
Assist members with checking accounts, statement inquiries, and Home Banking inquiries.
Handle the initial sign up of direct deposit including the following: Active and retired city employees’ payroll, government recurring payments, and other payments received on a regular basis.
Handle business correspondence with members, as required. Requires visual and written skills.
Assist member with direct deposit advances.
Assist the Tellers during peak time.
Comply with all Bank Secrecy Act requirements.
Adhere to cash balancing and maintain acceptable standards, including negotiable items, posting error, and proper check holds.
Process members’ requests for new loans, refinancing, advances on existing lines of credit, marketing loans and services, making loan decisions, providing financial counseling, assisting with Credit Monitoring/Scoring programs.
Ensure qualified members receive an approval and a loan check the same day they apply, if all needed documentation and verifications are obtained; ensure that members receive a loan decision by the next business day if same day approval and funding are not possible.
Maximize all member loan request by approving all loans when applicable.
Market loans and services. Requires use of hands, computer, calculator, and phone system.
Encourage members to apply for applicable loan products such as: real estate, auto pre-approvals, Visa, overdraft protection, and signature loans.
Offer debt protection insurance, mechanical breakdown insurance, GAP insurance, and the services of the current Loan Promotions to all eligible members, utilizing Internet or Dealer Direct Access.
Create/process loans in Symitar. Requires use of hands, computer, calculator, and phone system. Ability to analyze documents.
Exercise lending authority as Branch Member Service Representative in compliance with established policies and procedures regarding loans and operations.
Ensure that documentation and decisions comply with all government regulations and credit union policies and procedures.
Refer loans, which are outside one’s authority to approve or recommend for denial to a loan underwriter, as appropriate, with a recommendation. Recommend a counter-offer to all qualified members.
Participate in current incentive sales program.
Provide financial counseling with members per the Financial Counseling Practice and recommend debt consolidation loan program, when applicable.
Resolve member concerns regarding discrepancies and delinquent loan accounts.
Assist members with loan insurance, information or discrepancies; including claims for single & disability insurance and auto insurance.
Ensure all closed loan documents are prepared with a Member Records Header Sheet and sent to the Imaging Department.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. STAR Classes on Negotiable Items, Security, Loan Interviewing, Loan Processing.
Experience: 2 years’ experience in banking operations. One year new accounts and one year loan interviewing experience in a financial institution preferred.
Typing: 35 WPM preferred.
Business Machines: Accurate and efficient use of 10-key calculator, typewriter, and basic PC skills required.
Physical: Sitting 5 hours per day, approximately 3 hours per day for the following activities: standing, walking, bending over, crouching, squatting, carrying, pushing or pulling. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. one hour per day. Fine dexterity and utilization of typewriter and computer keyboard for extended periods of time. Visual skills for computer terminal, printers, calculator and credit union reports. Visual dexterity in the organization of financial records in chronological or alpha/numerical files.
Other: Strong oral and business writing communication skills preferred, along with the ability to determine members’ needs and handle transactions. Thorough knowledge of all credit union services and programs. Knowledge of regulations relating to consumer credit and knowledge in basic real estate lending. Knowledge of new accounts, share certificates and teller experience.
