American Reading Company's Production Department is looking for a Bilingual Copyeditor to add to our team.We are looking for a motivated individual to assist in producing and copyediting innovative teacher and student materials for schools in both Spanish and English. The role is responsible for the copyediting of curricular, publishing, and marketing materials in both print and digital formats. This position involves the entire print process, from pre-press to quality checks of finished materials once they are received in-house.

We are a high growth, triple bottom line (People, Planet, Profit), and 100% solar-powered organization.Responsibilities: Copyedit Spanish and English curriculum materials, such as handbooks for all grades, in an educational environment, striving for parity between the Spanish and English versions. Work closely with writers to understand their intended meanings and improve the clarity of their text where needed. Collaborate and work flexibly with writers, designers, and other copyeditors to update and enhance products to align with in-house standards and meet deadlines.

Identify inconsistencies in language or format across materials and assist in correcting those issues. Confirm the accuracy of direct quotations and details in material/resource references. Assist in the proofing of all materials created for printing.

Pitch in with the rest of the team on needs as they arise, including writing, layout, quality checks of printed materials, etc.Required: College degree (BA/BFA) and/or formal training or experience in copyediting Proficiency in academic-level Spanish Basic knowledge of Adobe InDesign and Acrobat: basic formatting (especially paragraph and character styles), page manipulations, etc. Knowledge of Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint Knowledge of or ability to learn/utilize data systems such as Sage 500 Ability to work on several projects simultaneously Ability to collaborate and work within a team and across departments Ability to work independently Commitment to meeting the highest standards within tight deadlines Organization and attention to detail Flexibility and patience Interest in education and children's booksPreferred: Knowledge of CCSS, TEKS, and/or VA SOL Experience in print production and the pre-press process Operational background Copyright and permissions experienceWhy you'll want to join our team: The opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way, in a rapidly growing, socially responsible company A competitive salary, with benefits including 16 days paid time off plus holidays, a 401(k), and employer contributions to the cost of health insurance Additional options including short- and long-term disability insurance, an employee assistance program, and children's home library collections We are dedicated to our mission of every student in America reading on or above grade level.
