Internal Communications Intern

AIR is seeking a Communication Intern for its Internal Communications team. The Intern will work with the communications team to develop comprehensive communication plans and high-quality communications content for a variety of organizational initiatives. This includes partnering with AIR's divisions - Professional Services, Assessment and Infrastructure - on their communications proprieties. The Intern will also create content (e.g., articles, email messages, scripts for videos and podcasts, talking points for leaders, one-pagers, etc.) for use in newsletters, intranet postings, e-blasts, handouts, and other channels. This role will also assist with ongoing channel enhancements (i.e., revamping intranet) or channel development (i.e., exploring an internal social platform). This role is equally focused on maintaining and building and requires the use of creative thinking to identify new approaches to solving problems.
We are seeking someone who can work 10-20 hours per week through 2019 with the possibility of work into 2020. This position can be based in our Washington, D.C. (Georgetown) or Rockville, Maryland office.
Partner with the Director of Internal and Executive Communications to develop new channels and approaches to improve the flow of internal communications
Design and manage communications projects with internal clients, including teams in Professional Services, Learning & Development, Diversity & Inclusion, Compensation, Benefits, Finance, Information Technology and Facilities
Work with the Communications Associate to develop content and edit the organization's internal newsletter, digital signage, and intranet site
Maintain and ensure alignment with an editorial calendar
Develop high-quality written components of communication plans
Produce visual content, including intranet ads, digital signage, social media sharables, and internal videos
Write leader messages and other announcements to be distributed to all AIR staff
Develop and implement plans to enhance existing communication channels, include the organization's intranet
Partner with recruitment and external communications on employer branding initiatives
Seeking Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or relevant field
Experience in the field of communications through previous positions/internships required, with internal communications experience preferred
Excellent verbal and written communication, including skills in copyrighting and editing with attention to grammar, style guides, formatting, audiences, and tone
Ability to synthesize information and present it in a clear, concise and compelling way
Skilled in project management
Excellent time management skills
Ability to work within and across teams
Working knowledge of MS Office and SharePoint
Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign) preferred
Experience in web design and web content production is a plus
