The Production Editor, Continuum is one of two positions responsible for copyediting and proofreading of all content for publication in Continuum: Lifelong Learning in Neurology as well as facilitating author and editor reviews to ensure high editorial quality.


Copyedit Manuscripts and Ancillary Materials

Ensures timely management and copyediting of all manuscripts and ancillary materials for three of six publication issues per year

Copyedits and sends continuing medical education questions to manuscript authors for review; works with associate editor to assemble final version for submission to publisher

Copyedits audio summaries

Coordinates Review Process and Prepares Manuscripts for Submission

Coordinates communication and collaboration of revisions of peer reviewers, editors, authors, associate editors, and editor-in-chief

Reconciles queries from the review process and prepares manuscripts for submission to the publisher


Manages the proof process on three of six issues per year

Proofreads, compiles corrections from all authors and editors, and reviews corrections from previous proofs

Documentation and Organization of Issues and Style

Keeps clear, organized documentation of manuscripts and issues in progress

Maintains and adheres to Continuum editorial style, updating the style guide as needed

Updates or prepares new procedure documents as needed

Additional Responsibilities

Participates in monthly calls with editors and publishing staff

Attends initial author conference calls

Attends occasional editorial board meetings and assists as assigned

Represents the publication at organizational conferences

Assists other production editor as needed by direction of managing editor

Bachelors Degree in English, Communications or related field is required


A minimum of 3 years of editing and proofreading experience is required

Working with a major style guide is required

Medical or scientific copyediting and proofreading experience is preferred

Working with American Medical Association editorial style is preferred

Direct communication with authors is preferred

Educational testing is preferred

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Demonstrated proficiency in MS Word and Excel is required

Excellent time management skills, ability to deliver when facing multiple projects with tight deadlines is required

Demonstrated exceptional attention to detail, accuracy and recordkeeping is required

Anticipates needed actions; plans and follows through with work activities; dependable and focused on getting things done to achieve goals is required

Demonstrated advanced oral and written communication skills are required

Demonstrated customer service skills sufficient to provide prompt, courteous and accurate information to internal and external customers in person, on the phone and through written and electronic correspondence are required

Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with others to get the job done is required

Ability to work independently with minimal oversight as well as actively contribute to project teams is required

Exhibits independent problem solving and proven project management skills is preferred


FLSA Classification: Exempt

Travel Requirements: Occasional travel required approximately 5%. Ability to legally travel outside of the United States, particularly but not limited to Canada.

Location: Minneapolis, MN and is identified as 100% remote (not required to work in the office with the ability to work remotely 100% of the time).

Schedule: Occasional evening and weekends required.

Physical Requirements: Standard office setting, with ability to sit for long periods of time, occasional use of stairs; regular use of computer and office equipment, lifting up to 10 lbs. The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Vaccination Requirements: While this position is eligible for 100% remote work, the COVID vaccine is required for those a) traveling for the AAN; b) attending in-person AAN conferences or group meetings of AAN Boards of Directors, Committees, Subcommittees, Work Groups, Task Forces, or related groups; or c) working in an AAN office.
