Position overview & purpose
As an MES (Manufacturing Execution System) Engineer, you will be responsible for implementing, maintaining, and supporting the MES systems in a manufacturing environment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including product engineering, production, process engineering, and IT, to ensure the MES systems meet the operational needs and business objectives of the organization.
Essential duties & responsibilities
- Deploy and develop MES systems based on the functional requirements of the organization.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure the MES systems align with the organization's operational and business goals.
- Configure and customize the MES systems to meet the specific needs of the organization.
- Develop and execute test plans to ensure the MES systems meet the functional requirements and specifications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to the MES systems and associated hardware and software.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, including user manuals, standard operating procedures, and training materials.
- Train end-users on the proper use of the MES systems and provide ongoing support.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety requirements related to the MES systems.
Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in the MES systems and associated processes.
Knowledge, skills & abilities
- Strong technical skills: An MES engineer must have a deep understanding of MES systems and associated hardware and software. They should be knowledgeable about system architecture, configuration, and customization, as well as industrial automation systems such as PLCs, SCADA, and HMIs. Strong technical skills are essential for designing, implementing, and maintaining MES systems.
- Excellent communication skills are essential for an MES engineer. They must be able to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams, including production, engineering, and IT, to ensure the MES systems meet the operational needs and business objectives of the organization. Good communication skills are also necessary for training end-users on the proper use of the MES systems and providing ongoing support.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills: MES engineers must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and troubleshoot issues related to the MES systems and associated hardware and software. They should be able to analyze data and system logs to identify the root cause of issues and develop effective solutions to address them.
- Attention to detail: An MES engineer must have a high level of attention to detail to ensure that the MES systems are configured correctly and meet the specific needs of the organization. They should be able to develop and execute test plans to ensure the MES systems meet the functional requirements and specifications.
Basic qualifications & competencies
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, physical science, IT or a related field.
- At least 3-5 years of experience in designing, implementing, and supporting MES systems in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred qualifications & competencies
- Experience in planning and logistics processes in a high-tech, high-volume environment is a plus.
- Experience in a small company and/or hyper growth company is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of MES systems, including system architecture, configuration, and customization.
- Experience with MES software platforms, such as Camline, Siemens, or Rockwell Automation.
- Knowledge of industrial automation systems, including PLCs, SCADA, and HMI systems.
- Experience with project management methodologies and tools.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Experience working in a regulated industry, such as pharmaceuticals or medical devices, is a plus.
