Job Description

System Administrator to work at their location in Honolulu, HI. This is a 1-year contract assignment with the possibility of extending or the possibility to go permanent with our client.

Primary Purpose of Job:

  • Responsible for the development, administration, security, performance, recoverability and support of the Enterprise Data Platform. 
  • Provides administration and support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers, patch management, security hardening, backups, and replication. 
  • Provides management with suggested direction for continual improvement of environment. 
  • Supports Agile/Continuous Integration/Continuous Development transformation processes.

Major Job Accountabilities:

  • Serves as subject matter expert for infrastructure supporting the Enterprise Data Platform. Establishes standards, procedures, best practices and guidelines. Infrastructure components include Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Satellite, Red Hat Identity Manager, IBM Spectrum Scale, IBM Spectrum Protect, and VMWare ESXi.
  • Provides guidance to technical staff.  Effectively resolves conflicts that may arise.  Provides consistency in reinforcing department and team goals to teammates while carrying out accountabilities.
  • Ensures overall performance, reliability and security of data, databases and related systems.  Accountable for maintaining optimal performance levels of servers and processes; ensuring recoverability of all systems.
  • Performs preventative maintenance measures.  Regularly monitors operations to ensure successful completion.  Provides after-hour support and troubleshooting activities for all data processes, as needed to ensure 24/7 system availability.  
  • Performs system and server administrative duties, including software installations, upgrades, configuration, and migrations.
  • Implements data strategy to secure, restore, and archive databases while remaining compliant with client’s information security policies.
  • Works to eliminate technical debt and increase efficiency through process improvement and automation where possible.
  • Leads and manages technical projects of varying complexity.
  • Executes appropriate testing and validation activities for all platforms.  Documents test results and ensures all issues are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Creates and maintains design documents, application overview documents, data flow diagrams, procedures and standards.
  • Ensures appropriate controls over the Enterprise Data Platform to maintain a highly controlled and fully auditable environment.
  • Fosters a positive, learning and collaborative team environment.  Proactively documents and cross-trains teammates to promote knowledge transfer and to ensure adequate coverage.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of designing, implementing, administering, and maintaining Linux servers and containers
  • Three (3) years of experience with enterprise storage, backups, patch management, and security hardening

Required Skills or Training:

  • Proficiency with server design, security, backup, recovery, tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency supporting servers for applications and databases
  • Thorough understanding of security concepts including authentication, authorization, Active Directory, Kerberos, and Server Auditing and Logging.
  • Experience with network and systems administration, including SAN technologies, Hyper-V, Windows Server OS, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, KVM, and hardware such as firewalls, routers and switches.
  • Demonstrated experience with business continuity including backups, high-availability, continuous availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Knowledgeable in cryptography, such as PKI, SSL, and key management.
  • Demonstrated experience in the successful leadership on projects.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical constituents; experienced in effectively resolving conflicts and differences in approach to technical solutions.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Effective at working under pressure to meet deadlines and achieve Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
  • Demonstrates readiness to leverage new technologies without formal training.
  • Demonstrates self-motivation and ability to work effectively with minimal supervision; takes initiative when identifies a need or issue.
