Buyer (Alleyton & Austin Materials)

This position will reside in the Richmond, Texas area.

Job purpose

Buyer will issue purchase orders for materials, supplies and services at the most favorable terms for the organization. Evaluates bids and negotiates prices for purchased goods and services. Will assist in the qualification of new suppliers. In addition, the Buyer will assist in developing business relationships with key suppliers.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Develop and implement requests for proposals (RFPs) for equipment, plants, parts and services. Participate in negotiations of supplier agreements and purchase orders (POs).

  • Will participate in strategic sourcing, cost management and program compliance activities

  • Use strong teamwork and cross functional skills to implement effective decision-making techniques and processes regarding bidding and sourcing activities.

  • Assists in developing business partnerships and relationships with suppliers. Enhance the relationships to promote value added services, quality or pricing advantages, along with efficient order processing techniques. These interactions must follow the code of conduct of the company.

  • Uses strong teamwork and cross functional skills to help determine stocking levels and items for consideration in stocking programs.

  • Understanding of purchasing systems, processes and procedures.

  • Enforce the compliance of the internal control practices for activities performed under the purchasing functions. These include requisitions and approvals.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Finance or related field or 3-5 years of experience in similar capacity.

  • Prior working experience in manufacturing and/or operations environments.

  • Negotiations and contracting skills.

  • Strong attention to details.

  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.

  • Good interpersonal skills with cross functional groups.

  • Organizational skills and the initiative to take charge of situations or projects.

Computer Skills: Experience with Microsoft Office products and some ability to adapt to other computer software.

Working Conditions

Consists of both office setting and on-site at plants as needed. Office environment will include suitable work areas and standard office equipment. On site work consists of activities which include navigating heights, machinery and exposure to elements such as dust, changes in temperature and weather. Required safety equipment will be issued and policies and procedures focused on safety will apply.

Physical/Mental Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing at times. The employee must frequently lift or move items up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move items up to 20 pounds. Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, employees and managers. Effective conflict resolution abilities. Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form. Ability to read, write and do mathematics.
