ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, VETERINARY TECHNOLOGY
This is a full-time, 175-day (10-month annual contract) tenure-track faculty position in the Life & Physical Sciences Department. As 60% instructor, the successful applicant will teach a range of pre-transfer veterinary courses to students with a variety of educational experiences and goals; participate in program review and curriculum development; review and revise content of course(s) as necessary; maintain five (5) required office hours per week for student consultation; participate in department and college activities; maintain class and examination schedules as well as grade and attendance records according to college regulations; and perform related tasks as required.
Instructors in the program must have knowledge and expertise in the topics they teach and promote the appropriate role of the veterinary technician in the veterinary health care team. Instructional duties must not violate local, state, or federal laws regarding the practice of veterinary medicine. The assignment may include teaching weekday evenings.
As 40% program coordinator, position duties include the following: obtain funding and place orders for equipment and supplies as needed for student instruction; be aware of any changes to the CA Veterinary Medical Board’s regulations that may affect the ability of students to qualify for the licensing exam; maintain/update the Veterinary Technology Program website; review/revise the program application and post a link on the website; assist students in the program application process and select the students for each year’s class; maintain the Internship Program in coordination with local veterinary hospitals and Cooperative Work Experience (CWE); maintain/recruit an active advisory committee and conduct meetings at least once a year; promote the program in coordination with Public Affairs; and maintain outreach programs and attend career days with local high schools.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Hiring salary range is $55,831 to $79,592 depending upon education and experience.

The governing board seeks an individual with the following minimum qualifications:
1. Any bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience OR any associate degree and six years of professional experience OR the equivalent per Board Policy 7211. The professional experience required must be directly related to the faculty member’s teaching assignment.
Preference may be given to candidates with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an AVMA accredited program with a minimum of 3 years of clinical practice or currently licensed Registered Veterinary Technician with a Bachelor of Science degree and a minimum of three (3) years of clinical practice in California. An active license in the State of California is strongly suggested.
2. Evidence of sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and community college students and of staff and students with disabilities.
3. Demonstrated ability to:
- Apply current theories and practices of Veterinary Technology in the classroom including the integration of reading, writing, and critical thinking.
- Use multimedia technology and digital technologies in classroom and online instruction.
- Apply evaluation and assessment methods including student learning outcomes that lead to student, course, and program improvements.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
4. Knowledge of and/or experience in:
- teaching strategies that address the needs of students with a variety of learning styles, skills, motivation, and educational goals
- collaborating with faculty and campus staff in developing and implementing programs or initiatives designed to help historically underrepresented, first generation, and marginalized students achieve their educational goals
