Overview

Implements daily lesson plans and supervises children in groups and as individuals, maintains records of children's activities, responsible for daily cleaning of classroom, communicate discipline problems, parent concerns, accidents, and facility problems to the lead teacher and perform related work as required.

Lead Teacher

Plans, coordinates and implements learning activities within the assigned classroom. Creates daily lesson plans, prepare materials needed. Participates in assessment and evaluation of ongoing departmental requirements. Maintains records of children's participation in activities and skills mastered. Responsible for maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations.

Assistant Teachers

Assists in planning, coordinating and implementation of learning activities within the classroom. Maintains records of children's activities. Assists in setting up a learning environment. Interacts frequently with children showing affection, interest, and respect.

Teacher Aides

Implements daily lesson plans and supervises children in groups and as individuals, maintains records of children's activities, responsible for daily cleaning of classroom, communicate discipline problems, parent concerns, accidents, and facility problems to the lead teacher and perform related work as required.

RECRUITMENT / HIRING OVERVIEW:

In-Depth Job Description

Qualifications

  • 6 months experience AND 12 Completed ECE Units in Child Development, Child-Family-Community, Curriculum, one additional ECE course
  • The ability to lift and carry children weighing up to 60 pounds
  • Submit to various background checks including those completed through the Department of Justice
  • Be CPR, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogen certified or obtain certification upon hire
  • Complete a Tuberculosis test and physical and provide a physician's documentation of both
  • Be mentally and physically capable of caring for a large group of children alone in a classroom
  • Possess a strong work ethic, be punctual, and have minimal absences
  • Have an awareness of the unique needs of young children and have appropriate expectations of their abilities
  • Be able to kneel, bend, squat, lift, push, and pull
  • Have dependable transportation

Required Expectations

The teacher is responsible for the care and education of children as part of a teaching team, and functions as a team leader, or a co-leader. The teacher ensures the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social, and physical needs. The teacher plans and implements the curriculum and assesses the needs of the individual children. The teacher must provide excellent customer service and be professional at all times.

The teacher must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and the needs of others and be able to relate with children. In addition, he/she must be willing to fulfill his/her responsibilities in accordance with the center's educational philosophy.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a positive environment for children that is clean, safe, stimulating and appropriate for each child's developmental level
  • Engage children in activities and play that stimulate their development
  • Assist children with activities of daily life (restroom use, diapering, and hand washing)
  • Be responsible for the appearance, dcor, and learning environment of the classroom
  • Appropriately supervise children while keeping them safe at all times
  • Be comfortable with communicating with parents or family members about their child
  • Establish a professional level of rapport with each family in order to provide quality care and friendly service
  • Create an environment that is clean, safe, and organized for all children
  • Plan daily activities that are developmentally appropriate for young children
  • Conduct child assessments and facilitate parent-teacher conferences
  • Attend and engage in occasional parent participation events and other events that may be on nights or weekends
  • Be responsible for daily record keeping pertaining to eating, sleeping, diaper changing
  • Maintain a professional self-image and project the values of the organization at all times
