Job Description

AP&T is hiring a full-time Fleet Mechanic at our Tok location. Our successful candidate will be a self-starter, highly motivated, detail-oriented, willing to follow directions, and willing to travel. They will possess excellent team and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently with little to no supervision.

Our fleet consists of highway vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, ATV's, watercraft, small engines and power tools. Primary responsibilities of the Fleet Mechanic include maintenance of a wide assortment of vehicles, including pickups, track hoes, class 3-7 trucks, small engines and trailers. Additional responsibilities include welding, housekeeping, operating heavy equipment and providing general overall support to assist crews with their daily workloads. Flexibility and excellent communication skills are necessary!

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid Alaska driver's license and the ability to be insured by AP&T
  • Must have a Class A CDL or ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment
  • 10 years' experience in maintenance of all types of vehicles (diesel, gas engine and electric)
  • Must be familiar with hydraulic systems and electrical systems and be able to read / understand hydraulic and electrical automotive schematics
  • Must be familiar with computer engine diagnostics
  • Previous heavy equipment operating experience is required
  • Ability to operate track backhoes and other heavy equipment
  • Must possess the ability to weld
  • Must have air brake experience, and/or certification, and the ability to perform inspections
  • Must possess the ability to perform annual DOT inspections
  • Ability to obtain flagger certification within 1 month of hire date
  • Must be personally equipped with own mechanic tools
  • Basic or advanced computer skills is a must
  • A familiarity with computer based Maintenance Program is required
  • A US Passport is required for occasional travel through Canada

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • General maintenance of all AP&T fleet vehicles, including digger and bucket trucks
  • Housekeeping and maintenance of shop building and yard area
  • Update Fleet Maintenance Program
  • Provide assistance to fleet maintenance operations in Haines, Skagway and POW
  • Assist with maintenance of diesel and hydro plants
  • Other duties as assigned
