Job Description

Purpose/Summary

Manages sales activities of organization by performing the following duties

Essential Duties/Responsibilities include the following, however other duties may be assigned

  • Plans, controls, and manages sales activities to attain maximum sales volume and develop maximum potential volume from specified customers for the organization's products and /or services

  • Act as liaison between customer and Akebono; Travel as required to visit customers, parts distribution centers, etc.; On time and accurate preparation of quotes for new items (or major changes); Lead negotiations and communicate cost and timing to customer for service requirements; Issues price change notices in a timely manner; Prepare and give customer presentations
  • Collaborates with a wide variety of functional areas such as engineering, program management, quality, manufacturing, and purchasing to develop and provide product definitions responsive to customer needs and market opportunities; May be required to perform program management duties on an as need basis within the Sales Department depending on the significance of the issue/request

  • Performs costing activities for profit/loss evaluation; Summarize and propose recommendations to Management concerning new business opportunities and strategies on how to exit/outsource business yielding a negative impact to Akebono; Coordinate launch of new items (or major changes) with Product Development and Plant(s); Monitor, summarize, and distribute customer ratings to Manager such as on-time delivery, past dues, etc.; Develops a method for follow up to ensure project timing is maintained
  • Solicits and maintains favorable contacts with current customers
  • Researches and resolves customer problems, recommending modifications to the product line(s) in an effort to expand sales; Handle customer problems related to pricing, engineering changes, shipping, etc.; Resolves any discrepancies to original contracts and/or agreements
  • Prepares periodic sales report showing sales volume, potential sales, and areas of proposed client base expansion
  • Monitors sales results and implements appropriate countermeasures to achieve the sales plan
  • Will aid in the development of the department's sales forecast and business plan
  • Manages mature product through phase-out; Works with Plants and Reman (if applicable) to achieve zero obsolete inventory at the end of serviceable life
  • Coordinates development of sales objectives, strategies, advertising and promotional programs (if applicable)
  • Able to perform all above tasks with little or no supervision
  • Capable to interact with management level individuals internally and at customers
  • Able to fill in for direct supervisor for internal & external meetings as necessary
  • Ability to manage individuals for either OE or OES accounts

Education and/or Experience (minimum required for the position)

Bachelor’s degree (B.S. or B.A.) from four-year college or university, five or more years related sales experience calling on both vehicle manufacturers or Tier 1 customers, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Essential Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Brake manufacturing, brake sales, or component sales experience is highly desirable

  • Experience with Japanese transplants (WARP and GTOPS experience is preferred but not required)
  • Technical sales experience or a strong technical aptitude is required
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office products (specifically Excel and Powerpoint)

  • Must be quality and outcome driven/oriented; Excellent time management, organizational and strong communication skills are required
