Position Summary:

Supports the overall technical mission in order to ease and strengthen the communication and cooperation between Airbus and P&W. Using the (Airbus) Experts/Specialists network as necessary, his/her mission is to ensure PW elaborate/execute a sustainable recovery plan of the A320neo PW1100G-JM Engine maturity and, in particular, the performance/neo+ Product Improvement Package does not induce maturity regressions.

Primary Responsibilities:

As the Deputy to and on behalf of the Airbus Engineering Representative, across the whole technical domains (engine mechanical design, system, performance, operability, FADEC,) involved in the development and validation of the design of the Engine, the Jobholder is accountable for:

Consolidating the design solutions: 30%

  • Thoroughly challenge with the PW Engineering teams the technical solutions and the validation plans robustness, and elaborate a dedicated support and recommendation accordingly.
  • Set-up and lead specific design reviews with the appropriate Airbus technical Experts, Technical Referents or Specialists.

Improving maturity on a proactive basis: 30%

  • Coordinate the PIP maturity streams in relationship with the Airbus and Pratt & Whitney WG0 Leaders.
  • Make sure that the independent "Team B" review (read-across with other engines, weak signals analysis, and risk anticipation) is performed by PW with the right level of expertise and time availability, and that the reviews are performed in a spirit to turn every possible stone and be firm in their conclusions.

Ensuring Aircraft requirements are considered: 20%

  • Assist the PW Chief Engineering team in ensuring that Airbus Aircraft-level constraints and requirements are taken into account right from the start of emerging technical issues and developments at PW.

Enhancing/strengthening Pratt & Whitney Project Management: 15%

  • Ensure adherence by PW to the best Project Management practices and closely monitor with them the execution of the mutually agreed action plan for critical topics resolution.
  • Set-up and lead specific design reviews with the appropriate Airbus technical Experts, Technical Referents or Specialists.

Additional Responsibilities:

Other duties as assigned: 5%

  • Ensure all above actions fit within the Non-Disclosure Agreement scope (and Export Control) with PW.
  • Report/debrief on a weekly basis to the Airbus Engineering Representative Manager.
  • Ensure that the outcomes of independent reviews are taken into account by the PW1100G-M team with the right level of priority.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor Degree in Engineering field
  • Desired: Educated to a Master's degree level in Systems Engineering (or equivalent)

Experience:

Required:

  • At least 10 years of experience in Powerplant engineering development (from program launch-to-Entry Into Service) and coordination with engine manufacturer
  • At least 5 years of experience in project/team management in relationship with engine manufacturer

Preferred:

  • Experience in Problem Solving Strategy processes
  • Experience in or collaboration with Customer Engineering Services

Licensure/Certifications:

  • N/A

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:


  • Strong leadership abilities (in front of a major Engine manufacturer and the PW Chief Engineer)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to negotiate and influence people who you do not have authority over
  • Autonomy and capacity to analyze and synthesize complex subjects
  • Networking abilities with all necessary Engineering functions / Experts

Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):

  • Advanced level of English

Travel Required:

  • 10% domestic travels between PW sites in US (MRO or Production sites), and international travels to Europe (Airbus).

Onsite Presence Requirement: Expectation is to be onsite at supplier minimum notionally 3 days per week (more if required due to business criticality) Remote in area of Hartford , Connecticut

Decision Making, Complexity:

  • The decision process or recommendations will be made using technical arguments and, when applicable, considering manufacturing/quality/cost/schedule.
  • Airbus network will be used to find the pertinent information or expertise to sensitize the PW Stakeholders and drive the decision or recommendation.
  • When appropriate, escalation and arbitration at Airbus Engineering Representative, Base/PIP Chief Engineering teams - and eventually at A320 Chief Engineer (BSI) and/or Powerplant CoC (IP) levels - will be solicited.

Job Dimensions, Contributions to Success:

A320neo PW1100G-JM Engine maturity is essential to:

  • Ensure Engine reliability, then enabling Aircraft safety, Operational Reliability and Delay/Maintenance Cost targets are achieved
  • Recover attractiveness of A320neo powered with PW Engines in the sales campaign, to further capture the market vs competition
  • Recover Aircraft production/delivery rate and ramp-up
  • Protect (enhance) image of Airbus and its Customers

Nature of Contacts:

Involved, negotiation type communication on a daily basis with internal and external parties

Physical Requirements:

Sitting (50%), Standing (10%), Speaking (35%), Travel (5%).
