Outside Sales Representative - Commercial HVAC

Job Description

SALES ACTIVITIES:

 

  • Build relationships with HVAC manufactures, Mechanical Contractors, Specification Engineers, Owners and End Users via face-to-face calls, telephone and virtual meetings

  • Work diligently to educate and achieve specifications with the engineering and architectural community on the latest trends in HVAC equipment, design, and efficiency

  • Leverage our comprehensive marketing approach consisting of engineering / educational presentations, jobsite, and factory visits as well as active participation in industry associations

  • Educate engineers while assisting in the design of the most cost effective and efficient systems specific to their client’s needs

  • Provide professional, accurate and timely proposals

  • Provide accurate and comprehensive equipment submittals making planning, installation, and implementation quicker and easier

  • Provide expertise during construction, equipment start-up and during system commissioning

  • Work with Building Owners and End Users to assist in selecting equipment with the appropriate features and benefits offering reliability and lowest life cycle costs

  • Leverage our expertise and consultative approach with building owners to become an integral member of their team when matching systems and equipment to their specific facility needs

  • Work closely with suppliers to follow-up leads, attend inhouse-training, set up client training and make joint calls

  • Perform project equipment take offs

  • Follows bid processes

  • Organize and maintain job files

  • Work with accounting and operations to handover projects

  • Coordinate projects with operations and engineering

  • Maintaining a calendar in electronic medium (at present Outlook)

  • Attend internal sales meetings

  • Overnight travel as needed to meet suppliers and clients

  • Achieve booking and gross margin goals

  • Team sells approach with other Salespeople & Representatives as appropriate.

  • Follow through on sold projects to ensure satisfactory completion.

  • Assist in resolving installation, collections and other customer satisfaction issues as needed

  • Prepare accurate and thorough sales activity reports, forecast reports and expense tracking.

 

 


 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Extensive HVAC equipment application and systems knowledge including controls

  • Controls experience imperative

  • Three years minimum of outside sales experience specific to commercial HVAC and Controls

  • Ability to Assist in the design and construction of HVAC systems from the simplest to complex

  • Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented

  • Ability to understand and read blueprints – mechanical and control systems

  • Proficient in Adobe, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint, BlueBeam

  • Demonstrated competency in consultative, relationship, listening, and selling skills

  • Highly self-motivated, goal oriented

  • Ability to work well in a team environment

  • Excellent communication / follow up skills personally, telephone and email

  • Writing skills – skills to generate accurate, well-conceived correspondence

  • Ability to multitask

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree or completion of trade school with Five years minimum related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience in commercial HVAC, building automation, controls or associated manufactures representative business.

  • Knowledge and experience representing Controls

  • Project management skills a plus enabling work with building owners, architects, mechanical engineers and contractors

  • Equipment knowledge pluses: Controls, Air Handling, Packaged & Split DX/DOAS / ERV, Cooling Towers, Air Distribution (Grills, Registers, Diffusers, VAV’s, Dampers, Fan Coils), Fans, Controls, Wireless Thermostats, Flow Measurement (liquid and air), Gas Detection Equipment, Pressure Independent valves, Adiabatic Humidification Systems, Snorkels, Air Purification Systems

 

COMPENSATION:

  • Draw against commission – base paid twice monthly

  • High commission rate on gross profit

  • Health insurance – employee portion of basic plan paid 100%
