The Global Category Marketing Director, leads specific core and new product and lifecycle initiatives that contribute to the commercial success of AgroFresh products globally. Initiatives include category area reviews, competitive analyses, global brand development, new product launch planning (including any necessary market development needed) and lifecycle planning for new and launched products.   The Director will interface frequently with representatives of the lead markets, as well as R&D, BD and Operations, and ensure that commercial and market input and needs are incorporated into all Global Marketing, R&D and execution plans.   The Director, in some instances, will lead a Global Category Teams to develop long-term strategic assessments.   

Location: Remote or Hybrid at our Philadelphia HQ

The role will report directly to the Global Head of Marketing.

  • Operate as the global leader, project manager and champion for a designated category of products and services, working with key stakeholder groups, to develop focused, industry-leading category marketing & innovation strategies.
  • In collaboration with R&D, Strategic Business Development and the lead markets, develop the long term plans for selected categories, customer segments and/or product lines. 
  • Drive globally centralized commercial prioritization decisions that align to category strategy and build value for AgroFresh in the long-term.
  • Contribute to or develop 3-5 year commercialization plans for select products including go-to-market strategy, forecast, pricing, launch sequence and lifecycle plans.
  • Lead projects working with partner agencies to develop global positioning, pricing, branding, and core brand messages and produce global launch kit for markets.  
  • Lead the global coordination of technical, sales training and key brand materials aligned to strategies and ensure that these are leveraged globally. 
  • Prepare and present category strategy reviews and business updates to Senior Management
  • Collaborate with Business Development to identify potential acquisitions that are consistent with established strategy.  
  • Track global performance of AgroFresh and competitive products.
  • Track emerging technologies.
  • Develop annual operating plan for the category. 

Qualifications:  

These qualifications, experiences, and skills are highly desirable; however, they do not preclude exceptions based on an individual’s performance history and demonstrated potential.   

  • BS /BA in business or marketing. MBA preferred
  • 10+ years of in-line marketing experience and a proven record demonstrating successful strategy development and new product launches
  • Experience in agriculture, produce industry, grocery retail, life sciences, food chain, or CPG a plus 
  • Global Experience working across multiple regions in global teams
  • Experience/involvement/knowledge of the product development process 
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills and ability to lead through influence 
  • Strong individual leadership presence
  • Strong financial analysis skills and proven ability to create forecasts and scenarios.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to oversee complex, cross-functional projects that require input from many internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in marketing disciplines; brand management; market research; communications strategy; customer insight
  • Ability to interact with/influence AgroFresh Sr. Management with confidence and conviction
  • Demonstrated skills in strategic, analytical, complex problem-solving and storytelling with the ability to action on insights
  • Commitment to excellence - both in results achieved and how they are achieved
  • Comfortable with ambiguity 
  • Travel Ability to travel up to 20%
