Afford-A-Vet Animal clinic is a 4 doctor, walk-in based practice. We are open 7 days week. We are looking to hire at least 2 assistants, 1 technician, and 1-2 doctors. Veterinarian duties include, but are not limited to: Performs a full range of professional veterinary duties, including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, and surgery. Considerable independent judgment is used to make decisions in carrying out assignments, having a significant impact on service. Veterinarians may function as lead workers or senior workers. Must be able to withstand unpleasant odors and noises. May be exposed to bites, scratches, animal waste, and contagious diseases. Performs routine medical examinations, selects appropriate and cost-effective diagnostic procedures, and establishes appropriate therapeutic protocols. Performs routine and specialized surgeries. Asks for advice or assistance when necessary. Recommends and uses medically appropriate and cost-effective laboratory testing to assist in establishing a diagnosis. Possesses knowledge to interpret these tests properly. Establishes thorough and accurate treatment plans. Treats animals humanely, and shows compassion and concern for patient well-being. Actively listens to clients. Communicates clearly so clients understand treatment recommendations. Expresses empathy and compassion. Keeps clients satisfied. Communicates in such a way as to show clients that they have received a good value for the cost of services rendered. Demonstrates concern for the welfare of patients by following up with the clients. Maintains accurate records. Uses SOAP templates for treatment plans and recommendations. Completes case records in a timely fashion. Follows the established rules and policies that govern the normal operation of the hospital Communicates the practice’s objectives to the team. Motivates staff and helps build and maintain morale. Maintains core values and standards. Demonstrates “take-charge” capabilities. Takes an active role in hospital staff meetings. Promotes a cooperative working environment. Understands the value of teamwork, and enthusiastically and willingly performs as necessary to help the hospital function as a unit. Adheres to all hospital policies, standards, and procedures, including but not limited to uniforms, grooming, smoking, and personal calls, as stated in the hospital procedures manual. Serves as a representative of the hospital, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and a positive attitude in all interactions with clients, patients, and other staff members. Demonstrates initiative in everyday duties by seeking other work during down times, assisting other employees, and filling in for other employees as needed. Adheres to the posted work schedule. Arrives for work promptly and begins work at the start time. Follows hospital policies for reporting lateness or absences. Organizes work area and exercises time-management skills to maximize personal efficiency. Prioritizes tasks and handles multiple tasks in a calm, organized manner. Assistant duties include, but are not limited to: Follows established procedures in order to assist veterinarians with examinations and facilitate the flow of clients and outpatients. Consults with veterinarians on a daily basis to plan each day’s activities. Keeps veterinarians apprised of potential problems, discussions with clients, and other situations as necessary. Reviews medical records and notes made by the admitting Client Care Specialist (receptionist) to discern the nature of the visit and any tests or procedures that may be needed. Stocks drawers in exam rooms and treatment areas. Greets clients and patients and escorts them into an exam room. Places the patient on the exam table and prepares for the veterinarian to enter the room. Obtains base information (weight, temperature, etc.) for the pet. Discusses with the client the reason for the visit, any symptoms or problems, and any procedures that may need to be completed (e.g., vaccinations or fecal or heartworm tests). Uses a pre-exam checklist to ensure that all medical needs are (S.A.M.P.L.E.) Obtains lab samples that may be needed from the pet. Uses a fecal loop when necessary. Anticipates and prepares any medications or vaccines the veterinarian will need to treat the patient. Notifies the veterinarian when patients in the exam room are ready to be seen. Advises the veterinarian about the nature of the visit, preventive procedures due, and necessary tests. Assists the veterinarian with the exam by restraining the animal, preparing forms, and gathering instruments. Remains in the exam room until excused by the veterinarian. Ensures that all procedures rendered during the visit are documented for proper billing. Escorts the client and patient to the front desk and gives the medical record and patient visit form to the Receptionist. Prepares the exam room for the next visit. Technician duties include, but are not limited to: Provides client service and administers care to hospitalized and inpatient animals. Admits surgical, dental, and admitted patients throughout the day. Generates treatment plans and estimates. Gathers history and reviews treatment plans. Coordinates care of admitted and kennel patients with inpatient. Collects samples. Opens templates and enters patient history. Communicates orders to appropriate staff. Assists with intravenous catheters, starting fluids, and other treatments. Assists veterinarian with exams and treatments for admitted and kennelled patients. Assists other team members, ensuring that all hospitalized patients are fed, watered, given their medications, and walked and that their environments are clean and comfortable.
